The US is blocking the UN's access to its satellite data. Without access to NASA and NOAA - plus US funding support - net zero is already looking like a dead duck. This artificial climate target now has significantly less weight to keep its global power scheme on track. On January 7, 2026, the US withdrew from 66 international organisations, including 31 UN or UN-affiliated bodies. This dismantles much of net zero's financial and bureaucratic haberdashery. The core of US strategy is to strip climate organisations of any legal standing, scientific authority and financial oxygen. The US has withdrawn from the bedrock 1992 Paris treaty, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Leaving the treaty itself also blocks the way back for any future US administration. Trump stopped all funding and formal participation in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and no longer recognises the IPCC as an authoritative scientific voice. Instead it's being labelled as a producer of 'narrative-driven code red rhetoric'. These moves are deep and profound. The White House also proposes eliminating all funding for UN peacekeeping in 2026, citing mission failures. This removes the power lever the UN often uses to justify its presence in the Global South. Voluntary funding has been pulled from dozens of specific programs, including UN-Energy, UN-Oceans, UN-Water, and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA). The exit list includes everything from global trade to cultural property, which the administration views as mission creep. It's a brick-by-brick structural demolition of the United Nations: *Withdrawal from ECOSOC regional commissions (Africa, Latin America and Asia-Pacific). *Exiting the International Renewable Energy Agency and the International Solar Alliance. *Pulling out of the International Tropical Timber Organization and even the International Federation of Arts Councils.
