Pleased to share a new paper in West European Politics on how housing wealth shapes whether people feel heard. Together with @madselk & @benwansell, I looked at a neglected determinant of political efficacy: homeownership. Link to the #openaccess paper in the last post. (1/6)

Very interesting and surprising results: the left cannot downplay contestation on cultural issues; socdem and radical left are two significantly different things Great work! #OA

🆕 Latest article out @ElectoralStdies! Left parties' higher salience on cultural issues associated with higher support from working-class voters. Social democrats much more sensitive to different strategies, should pursue more left/salient economics doi.org/10.1016/j.elec…

Early policy action doesn’t depend on mass automation 🤖 "The implications for policy would be profoundly different—requiring us to focus less on job numbers and more on ensuring that technological change enhances rather than diminishes the quality of working life." 🧵🔗

Economic crises tend to favour the right. Voters tend to assign greater importance to issues owned by the right. When center-right parties preside over a crisis, voters often drift further rightward to nationalist parties rather than defect to the left onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/aj…

This neat, short paper provides grounds for (cautious) optimism that retraining programmes for workers in AI-exposed occupations can work at scale. Fascinating read, will be interesting to see if it holds up over time!

🚨Excited to share our short paper “How Retrainable are AI-Exposed Workers?” w/ @BenLahey, @KarenXNi, @pilossopher, on how training programs affect workers highly exposed to AI prior to job loss, and those targeting AI-intensive jobs after training. nber.org/papers/w34174. 1/🧵

Screening manifestos, we show that M5S pioneered the digitalization debate in 2013, prompting engagement from PD and centrists. 🟦Liberals & conservatives frame it as a tool for streamlining public administration 🟥Centre-left focuses on expanding digital public services.

Do Italian parties care about digitalization—and how do they frame it? In new #OA paper on Contemporary Italian Politics, Edoardo Bressanelli, @StefanoSacchi71, @dario_muccilli and I find a sharp rise in issue salience over the past decade, with marked ideological divides 🧵🔗👇
