Insightful take by @gregcosell as usual. I wonder if watching Puka's big-body success vs. Seattle in 1-on-1s (and over the middle) gave Shanahan some ideas? Another thing that comes to mind is that we might see more spread sets return with 3x1 and 4x1 alignments (that Greg talks about) as defenses try to copy Seattle's 2-high / Disguise structure. Seattle perfected defending condensed sets this year—it helped them keep safeties high and hold disguise longer because they're closer to the core and can support the run from depth faster than if they were spread out. Spread sets and a guy who can win could change things and make it harder to disguise.. Shanahan vs. Macdonald vs. McVay should be fun! Just some food for thought. Would love to hear thoughts on Seattle's disguise and the best way to attack it.
