It was designed to be vastly larger than anything built before—around 290 meters tall, with a dome roughly 250 meters in diameter, capable of holding up to 180,000 people. Hitler himself sketched early ideas for it (inspired by Rome's Pantheon), and Speer developed it into detailed plans and models in the late 1930s.The surrounding layout in the model represents parts of the planned north-south axis of Germania, with other oversized neoclassical structures, wide boulevards, and monumental buildings stretching into the distance. Nothing like this was ever constructed (beyond some preliminary demolitions and a test cylinder for soil stability), as the war intervened and the regime collapsed.
