We're talking about families who are trying to support their loved ones with the less than $35,000 a year. Just let that sink in for a second. That's why we've abolished the minimum wage in Chicago and will continue to phase it out.

This @barstoolWSD tweet raises an interesting question! I subscribe to pretty much every PR and food/bar newsletter and have a ton of hospitality Google Alerts so I searched my 20 year old gmail account for "tavern style" and first press mentions I found were in December 2018.

This has been bothering me for a while now. When did "tavern" style become a thing? I never heard it in my life until the last 5-7 years I feel like. There's thin crust and there's deep dish

We've learned 14 Cook County Dept. of Corrections officers were hospitalized this afternoon due to opioid exposure at a Residential Treatment Unit. Apparently, paper documents were tainted with opioids. We're told the movement of drugs into Cook County Jail facilities for inmate use has become rampant and officers are regularly exposed. Where is our intrepid CC Sheriff, Tom Dart?

CWB revealing the man who set Bethany MaGee on fire on the CTA last week had 72 arrests and is the latest instance of a violent, habitual criminal who should have been in jail awaiting sentencing rather than on the streets free to commit additional crimes. Responsibility for Lawrence Reed, a man with 72 prior arrests roaming Chicago’s streets, rests with County Board President and Dem. Party Boss Toni Preckwinkle. “The Architect” of pretrial release and overlord of Cook County’s failing justice system. Preckwinkle twice gave us Kim Foxx, Mayor Johnson once, and likeminded County judges who often overrule prosecutor’s appeals to detain violent criminals. CWB reports almost 20% of those arrested for violent felonies were home on pretrial release awaiting trial on other felonies. From 2020-2024, even before the Safe-T Act, 408 arrested for murder or attempted murders were on pretrial release. Given the abysmal arrest rate that number awaiting trial for other felonies is four to five times higher. Voters will soon have a chance to retire “The Architect”.

I’m glad you said that, Brandon Johnson has an over 150 police officer detail to protect him that costs us over 30 million a year. What about that in the budget? He’s unpopular, why do you need to have the largest detail of any mayor ever? Did you also forget that Brandon Johnson put forth a 300 million dollar property tax increase last year? It was rejected by city council. This budget increases rideshare fees for folks taking uber and lyft for a second time. He increased fees for streaming and cable. He added 50 new speed cameras and increased the bag tax in stores. He wants to tax businesses to so they leave and our property taxes increase AGAIN! Stop this BULLSHIT about he’s trying to fight the rich, he’s hurting us. Y’all are LIARS!!
Black Voters Matter Fund@BlackVotersMtr

BVM isn’t “shoving” anything through. 😂 We’re backing a budget that actually helps Black and Brown communities—cutting grocery taxes, lowering rents, funding schools, parks, housing, mental health, and violence prevention.

Democrats allocated billions for illegal aliens—not Illinoisans who actually need help. Those priorities should tell you everything. Flip Illinois Red—November 3rd, 2026. 🇺🇸

Illinois State Sen Dave Syverson EXPOSES JB Pritzker for giving over 120,000 illegals free healthcare, costing taxpayers over 1 BILLON dollars. Not only that, their healthcare is better than American citizens! Illegals are also getting free daycare, housing, food, and cash. You are not nearly infuriated enough.

If you live in NYC (or any big city), your food is probably delivered by an illegal immigrant. Here’s how the system works: they rent mopeds for $400 a week, fake app logins for $150, and spend 12-hour days paying off smugglers back home who helped them cross the border. Most people know this but don’t say anything. New Yorkers see them speeding through red lights, clustered outside restaurants waiting for orders. Calling this out feels like punching down — they work hard so you can have your pad thai at midnight. But the real problem isn’t them, it’s the system: a black market of brokers, tech companies, and politicians who profit from their desperation. Now Zohran Mamdani wants to pour another $100 million of taxpayer money into free lawyers for undocumented migrants and a citywide ICE blockade. It sounds compassionate. It isn’t. It keeps the exploitation going...formalized, tax-funded, and dressed up as virtue. And when people say “abolish ICE” to protect them, that’s not compassion either. It’s complicity. It keeps them trapped, not free. Read my breakdown @PirateWires ⬇️

NEW IN PIRATE WIRES: “Abolish ICE!” tweet the yuppies as they order midnight burritos, insulated from the shadow economy of debt slavery their orders enable. On a typical night in Manhattan, you’ll see gas-powered mopeds, headlights cutting through steam from street vents. Riders slumped over cups of coffee, helmets at their feet. Towering above them in $4,000/month rentals, customers stare at their phones impatiently. “Your Thai curry is six minutes away.” Everybody knows what’s going on. We just don’t say it out loud. Most of these men on mopeds recently arrived from Venezuela, Ecuador, or West Africa. They aren’t legally allowed to work, but they are anyway, leasing vehicles from brokers for $300 to $500/week, and renting app logins from citizens who farm them out for another predatory fee. No payroll records, 1099s, or workers comp. No real path to lasting freedom. In liberal cities like NYC, customers look away, or tip 35%, thinking it absolves them of guilt even as they accelerate a broken (and illegal) system. The solutions aren’t easy, but instead of cruelty or performative charity, we should aim for integrity. Enforce the border and punish exploitation. End a system that lets you feel good while someone else breaks the law for you. Your burrito might get more expensive, but if we want a humane system, it has to be lawful first. Today in Pirate Wires, @_sagnikbasu on the shadow economy powering your burrito limo. Full story 👇

It's shocking @ChicagosMayor is touting the end of the sub-minimum wage as a godsend for workers. Since One Fair Wage went into effect, an astonishing 5,200 restaurant workers lost their jobs, and 100 restaurants shuttered. Ending the sub-minimum wage has been devastating for Chicago's working class and restaurant industry.
