After years of observation in the INRAE VitAdapt vineyard in Bordeaux and at France’s national trunk disease observatory, there’s evidence that susceptibility to esca varies by grape variety. Pinot Noir is among the least susceptible. #graperesearch tinyurl.com/yckf3e42

Older, woody roots give above-ground shoots the nutrition to take off, but “young roots are where the action is,” says viticulturist Stan Grant. They take up water and nutrients and synthesize hormones to power vine growth and development. #graperesearch tinyurl.com/3wmvyj7n

@fletchwine @jamiegoode @RiojaWine That is one of the more bizarre grape berry phenomena. Surface wetness can dilute across the cuticle but you can irrigate until water pours out the leaves without dilution. Berry hydraulics is just super complicated. Who knew? 🤷‍♂️👍 #viticulture #wine

@jamiegoode @RiojaWine They would be waiting for the vines to recover their sugar. After "heavy rain" they need time, otherwise I suppose they would be regarded as "dilute".

Grant Johnson, UCCE urban ag tech advisor @ucce_la & @UCSouthCoast, is researching the viability of a solar voltaic shade screen. This structure, 1 of 2 in the world, is ideal for growers who need shade & want to harness renewable energy to power their operation at the same time.

@janeansonwine Hedging not the end of the world, but the idea is that the more above ground growth the more below ground growth and the more below ground growth the more above ground growth… and the circle continues. When you start hedging and toping you attenuate this.

@gregorygambetta Hmmmm, I would have to check but I feel that they had been hedged. They are working with Worldwide Vineyards for the grafting, do you know them?

Picking still a few weeks away in St Julien and Pauillac. Grapes looking to have resisted the rain of the last week, but need to accumulate sugar. Sun from tomorrow looks to be settling in…🤞
