So I've basically stopped using X due to, well, what X has become. I'm somewhat active on LinkedIn and I've recently joined Blue Sky (<at>gwitek.com) – if you're there, let me know!

I wonder why Twitter needed a new "Verified followers" tab and then I saw what's going on in the "All followers" tab 🤦🏻‍♂️ it's incredible how the quality of this site just keeps going down

A quote from Linda's memoir, coming in 2029: "The rebranding idea was ridiculous since the beginning and nobody besides Elon believed it would work, but we couldn't say anything. We were all his yes-men..."
Linda Yaccarino@lindayaX

X is the future state of unlimited interactivity – centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.

@bajicdusko I see what you mean. Interesting challenge, haven't thought about it. Estimating the impact of new team member based on seniority sounds like a good approximation – you could take more into account like familiarity with domain and tech stack, but not sure if that would even help

@gregorywitek Usually we're relying whether the team is more senior or junior in initial estimates, based on which the fixed contract (budget and timeline) are defined. I am interested in finding out different perspectives to this challenge 🙂

I wrote a thing. Here's how process managers fuck up the concept of velocity and how to unfuckitup: notonlycode.org/velocity/

@bajicdusko ... and I don't know who will do the task, as individuals have different capabilities. It's a bit like with everything - on low level things are volatile, but if you look from big picture they look more stable

@bajicdusko Thanks! I think on a team level you can convert points to time – if we deliver 40 points a month on average, we can say that 130 points will take us around 4 months, because the outliers will average out. This won't work on a single task level, because it's too volatile and...

@brian_wtLau They don't provide much value. I used to read all cover letters I got as hiring manager, and unfortunately almost all of them were terrible – generic templates, not specific to company in any way, repeating info from resume. Eventually I stopped reading them

Why don't tech jobs need cover letters?

Anyone knows some good course on technical writing? I need to level up my game and then help others to do it

@frankdejonge I think the most common cliff is 1 year, 4 years is usually the whole vesting period. Great thread btw, it's indeed a complex topic and you explained it in simple terms!

Some food for thought: the average tenure of software engineers is estimated to be somewhere between 1 and 2 years. The most common vesting cliff is 4 years. Some vesting plans yield the majority in the last year. This means much of the promised value never materialises.

For many software engineers, equity is part of the compensation package. Over the last couple of years, I've definitely learned a thing or two about equity. The first thing is, equity is not the same everywhere. This makes comparing offers more difficult. Thing I learned:

I read one too many articles about how process managers screw up their teams by relying on estimations and velocity, and now I'm writing a guide on how to unscrew it. I'm afraid I'll end up with 5,000 words 😩

Wait, so Twitter works on the web with no issues? It's only mobile app that has this rate-limiting issue? 🤯

Wait, didn't Twitter owner recently show off they got record usage? So then he figured out it was mostly bots? 🤨 Also, I can't even verify screen authenticity cause I'm rate limited. The Twitter comedy's getting better every day 🤦🏻‍♂️

Basically we move people to a completely new role where they need to learn shitton of new skills and the support they get is "good luck, let me know if you need anything"

@gregorywitek I’m using usb-c only. And changed the mode of connection from camera to webcam. Guess that’s what makes the difference.

Fujifilm X-T5 camera bailed on my twice during live calls due to overheating problems 🫠 switching to FHD from 4k didn't help either. can anyone recommend a decent mirrorless camera to be used as a webcam?

@fahad19 The only setting I changed was to disable automatic power off. How do you power it and plug to computer? I use dummy battery and capture card, so 2 things that could generate heat are moved away from the camera itself
