But my smart controller cannot send information if it's OFF most of the time or only ON when I'm in the field flying. DJI has litterally zero way to collect anything from me with my current setup. With a cell phone, that's different, I get that.

I use a smart controller. And it's not connected to the internet, ever. We turn it on at the field, turn it off, and use the SD card to download the footage from the drone.
