Now Ascot is finished can I give a sensible solution on these shop closures? I walked into Coral York this morning Champions Day to place a small multi (lost btw 😉) 3 punters + me…. all on Roulette, you have to laugh. Assume spending your own money exactly how you want is off the table. That would be the best scenario from the GC imo, not going to happen though? Big corps seem to be crying foul they now make no money on Racing. This is a result of funnelling new customers over to bet builders and casino games and making no reasonable effort to entertain even small to medium size bets on seemingly any other sport bar maybe high profit margin Soccer products. Complete blanket restrictions exist even on the highest liquid events that it’s impossible to know the winner of (EPL, NFL, Grand National) If I was the GC I’d take a proactive approach. Not literally, but walk into some of these brick and mortar shops, ask to see exactly what % profit is being made on the “roulette machines” and if it exceeds a certain % just remove their license and give them a casino license instead! Or even better just shut the gaffe down, they are a shit stain on society. You are lying to the public, cliche but you are no longer a bookmaker but an arcade. I must stress any shop that IS high % of sports betting, it’s good to see. This alone won’t solve the problem but will show a spine. I have absolutely no stats as to how “roulette machines” are in terms of addiction versus Sports gambling, it’s surely higher, it must be just purely using common sense? If staff are purely being kept in jobs to keep these machines on, I’m sorry but I don’t mind if you lose your job, you are indirectly part of the issue. I do have a couple of ideas: A) Force bookmakers and IBAS to sort out fcking customer service. Not a lot needs to be said about this. With all your corp profits, at least offer a decent service to punters. B) Some sort of flimsy minimum bet law with a max overround. My biggest gripe of the whole industry is bookmakers pricing up or copy and pasting pricing from events they know absolutely fck all about. Surely they don’t have a god given right to make money from an event you haven’t even had a look at! Something along the lines of 9% max overround on matches with 2 outcomes, eg a darts match. I’m sorry but if you can’t lay a monkey on an event 5/6 the pair you REALLY shouldn’t be inviting bets. If you wanna lay Bolivian Basketball matches? Sure go for it, but you’ll have to lay 5 to 6 the pair for a monkey. We might then get back to some sort of bookmaking in some form. Consumers might be less likely to use the black market? For what it’s worth. This is just purely a rant for the love of the game and what it is seemingly becoming. I must disclose, I am getting a fair living from losers, BUT it would be an environment where winners are allowed. The U.K. seems to be MASSIVELY now just hugely reliant on losers to fund the model, it’s got to the point where the corps have a god given right to win, they have no interest in taking any sort of risk where possible, smart sure, but the GC should have something to say? Do you have any ideas yourself, in particular for Horse and Greyhound racing or is it completely and utterly done?
