@CoffeeandIrony One sun has zero passion so one thousand suns would also have zero passion. Much like your post.

I hated The Odyssey with the passion of a thousand suns: it is the most aggressively revisionist adaptation I'm fairly sure I've ever seen, and thoroughly and separately trashes each and every main character, making them either weak or unlikable or both. And despite what reviewers claimed, every tiny thread in it hummed to the tune of progressive ideologies that were deeply woven into every piece of how it framed reality and the world: gods aren't real, or are indiffernet or cruel or can't be known, there's no transcendence or mystery, there are no heroes or heroines or glory or true bravery, and grim, terrible, bleak things happen in a nihilistic world, and the eeevil Greeks are to be horrifically blamed for sacking Troy and not living in a kumbaya world where all peoples just get along in peace and harmony (I can't believe I"m even writing that but it was the main theme of the entire third act and there's a specific line about how sacking troy and winning the war broke Zeus' law and therefore irrevocably "broke the bonds between people" thus plunging the world into chaos and disunity). Unity and harmony between people groups is portrayed as the highest ultimate good. The idea of individuals being heroic is spat upon over and over and over: there are no heroes in Nolan's adaptation. Penelope in particular is turned in the second half of hte film into a whiny, crying, explicitly feminist figure who tears up constantly and also wants the throne for herself. Also, the majority of the film is boring: two separate people in the rows around us fell completely asleep (we went to an 8:30pm showing) and only woke up when the movie was over

@Ezra4Liberty So just checking. You wanted to see the movie end with Tom Holland killing all the maids like he’s Django Unchained?

Nolan and Nyong’o called Homer’s The Odyssey “too misogynistic” and Nolan “had” to change it. Meanwhile, in his own film he gave Lupita Nyong’o (as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra) less than five minutes of screen time total. Homer actually gave Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra real weight and presence in the story. Nolan sidelined them almost completely. The hypocrisy is embarrassing. They lecture a 3,000-year-old epic about sexism while Nolan wrote the women out of his own version. Absolutely pathetic.

@WriterMcG 1125 million for breakeven. You add marketing and distribution and dubbing cost. Total will be over 400 million. And around 32 to 35% of total global gross come to producer.

@Gazz_54 Greeks are closer in DNA and appearance to a Palestinian than to an Anglo-Saxon. You can enjoy your white card now it’s been stamped, but just remember the true whites can and will repossess it the moment it’s beneficial to them :)

Ever since Nolan’s Odyssey hit theaters, X has been flooded with leftists trying to redefine what ancient Greeks looked like and claiming Ancient Greece was somehow a multicultural melting pot. This isn’t history. It’s agenda-driven revisionism. We Greeks have one of the clearest cases of population continuity in Europe across thousands of years, yet suddenly every single leftist is trying to rewrite our past to fit modern narratives. That’s real anti-Greek and anti-White racism, jealousy, and hatred dressed up as “discussion.” Actual Greeks like me are still here watching this play out in real time. Leave our history alone.

@TArchcast The suitors were all rich Ithacan kids who got out of the war and tried to take power when all the real men left. The message is to kill all the rich kids who haven’t done a days work in their life.

The message of the odyssey is very simple. There are diverse foreigners in your home, eating your food and trying to fuck your wife. You have to go home, string your bow. And Kill them all.

@BadRonen So why didn’t they do the same with Supergirl? Or Moana? What makes Nolan’s movie so special that this conspiracy needs to happen?

Hollywood is so desperate for the Odyssey to be a success that the studio is buying tickets to fake tickets sales, and rotten tomatoes is snubbing bad reviews, It’s like they refuse to allow Nolan to have a flop, and refuse to admit this was a failure.

@OptimoPrincipi A film set in Ancient Greece is not a film about Ancient Greece. It’s a film about us today, set in Ancient Greece. Every movie is a product of the time it is made.

Emily Wilson after watching the Odyssey: ‘The film presents an Odysseus who feels very bad about things that he's done in war, and is struggling to process them in a very modern, psychiatrised way – and needs drugs to do so! He seems to feel bad about being a warrior, and we never actually see him get to do much warrioring ... Nolan makes the protagonist a likeable, all-American hero; Homer's Odysseus wants glory, and he wants to get spoils from the sack of a city! I kept looking in vain for a sense that this was a film about glory. This is a film that has an interest in shame, but I don't think it has any interest in glory.’

Just experienced my first air raid in Ukraine. Sirens blaring. This is everyday for every Ukrainian. I feel like such an asshole for minimizing the struggle of Ukrainians for the last 5 years. I often said I don’t care. Looking back, that wasn’t very nice of me to say. There are people in Ukraine who have to run to a bomb shelter everyday and some of us had the audacity to say Russia wasn’t wrong because we believed the lie that Ukraine is a country full of Nazi sympathizers. We have been so propagandized by Russia and we don’t even realize it. Air sirens could very well be the future of America if we don’t start demanding our lawmakers crack down on communism and multipolarity. We won’t have Trump forever and the axis of evil is moving fast.
