my honest opinion on “petal” ariana keeps growing as an artist and she’s not afraid of evolving. her instrumentals have never been this elaborated and bold, they’re cohesive throughout the album. you can tell what she wanted to deliver. the high notes everyone wanted are not needed, it didn’t need to be loud, as she’s firmly explaining her rage. it all feels perfectly balanced. i adore the continuous switch in her tone and sound, the experimental feeling through it all. her vocals sometimes seamlessly blend with the backing track, which contrasts the lyrics that are direct. as a fan it’s a blessing to have an artist with different album styles, each feels very authentic to who she is and what she’s going through. it’s definitely a body of work people will appreciate more with time. taking risks pays off.
