We are a diverse bunch of researchers, scholar activists, artists, advocates, service users, education and health consultants. Together we aim to better understand social factors in the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of neurodivergent people of all ages.

Rather than judging emotions against neurotypical norms, a neurodiverse group of academic and youth co- researchers asked 57 autistic and/or ADHD adolescents (11–15)to explain-in their own words-what makes life feel overwhelming and what genuinely helps.

Importantly, while autistic+ ADHD adolescents shared overlapping needs, they also articulated distinctions: #Autistic youth valued consistency, predictability, co-regulation. #ADHD youth emphasised loyalty, reciprocity, and harnessing personal strengths during adversity.

Instead, they identified external stressors and environments as the real drivers of distress + call for a shift: 💡 From “fixing” individuals to adapting environments 💡 From standardised strategies to self-chosen regulation+agency 💡 From “accommodation” to true belonging
