the real lesson isn't the downtime, it's rebuilding blind. most platforms ghost you on termination reasons or bury them in legal speak. that 48 hour rebuild probably taught you more about your stack than months of smooth sailing. vendor lock, in hurts, but not owning your observability? that's the real trap.

Vercel @vercel terminated my account. No warning. No explanation. No response from support. @dokly_co went down. I had users on it. Here's how I 👇 rebuilt the entire infra in 48 hours — and why I'll never put a SaaS on a single-vendor lock-in again. 🧵

8/8 Dokly is back up, faster than before, and I sleep better knowing if Railway ever fails me, Fly.io, Render, or a $5 VPS are one deploy away. Don't build on a foundation you can't pick up and walk with. (Building @dokly_co — Mintlify alternative for indie devs and small teams.)

7/8 The lesson I keep coming back to: If your app is a normal Node process behind Cloudflare DNS, you can move hosts in an afternoon. If your app is wired into one vendor's edge functions, build pipeline, and proprietary primitives — you can't. Portability isn't paranoia. It's leverage.

@rauchg Vercel took down my account and all the projects with it. It's been three days, no answer from support. I cannot afford to be down as an indie hacker for so long. All my .env, configs etc are tied to my vercel account. I can't even login. Please HELP!

Anyone knows if it’s possible to move a Nextjs project from vercel to another provider?

@vercel Received emails that all my projects in my account are suspended and now I cannot login in to my vercel account. Just an honest developer building product. Please help 🙏🏻.

Nobody tells you that 30% of building a SaaS is replying to emails. Real ones, real users, real bugs.

@tdinh_me But if you don’t get customers, does it mean your product sucks or you didn’t try hard enough?

The biggest turning point in my indie journey (and probably my life) was when I realized that I had to actively look for customers instead of waiting for them to come to my “amazing” product. I was building DevUtils back in 2020 and didn't really have a way to show it to more people. I was just waiting to get lucky and somehow the app will go viral. That didn't work. You have to actively reach out to people to sell your product, in one way or another. For me, I found a channel that worked well: building an audience on X in 2021-2025, but other people have found ways that work well for them: email marketing, SEO, cold outreach, paid ads, etc Build a product, ship it, then find customers. Give it a serious attempt. If the product doesn't work, move on and try new things! Don't just wait to get lucky, build your own luck.

The best docs feature is the one users never notice: instant search that returns the right page on the first try. The worst docs feature is also search — when it doesn't.

Tuesday tally since the video posted: 12 signups, 2 turned into real projects, 1 person asked if Dokly does API reference yet. Answer is "soon" and this time I mean it.

Recorded a video building a Dokly site from scratch in under a minute. Took me ~6 takes. The product was the easy part. Editing video is its own circle of hell. youtu.be/uZrVvC1by2Q
