In any theory for quantum black holes that allows information of in going material to emerge in the out going Hawking particles, the temperature is twice the value calculated by Hawking. How come no one seems to have noticed this before?

@CovidVaccinatie Wij zijn aan de beurt. Hoera.

To all scientists who use LaTeX to make the slides for their Zoom presentation: please erase everywhere in your file your \pause commands. \pause does not work as intended, making your presentation difficult to follow (without you noticing the bug)

@paulg I hope we can also agree on how to realise such objectives. Perhaps through the Russian people, helping them understand that they are being fed with mendacious propaganda, and that their government commits war crimes.

With NASA technology, it should be possible to develop remotely controlled robots, to be attached to cables, to save victims from a fall into a well or pipe such as what happened to little Rayan in Morocco.

To host extraterrestrial intelligent life, any planet will have to pass several necessary - while very improbable - bottlenecks. I think it is unlikely that we'll ever detect intelligent signals. But nobody knows.

Congratulations to my friend and colleague Giorgio Parisi for the 2021 Nobel Prize in physics. Remembering frequent discussions in the 1970s about large N and other features of quantised field theories.

The rest of the world should decide to organise our measures to aid India, producing and delivering vaccines for 1.3 billion people, starting this minute. In addition we should think of Brazil and other countries where the situation is urgent. It’s also our own interest.

@AMAZlNGSCIENCE “if a black hole the size of a penny...”? That has a mass as big as earth itself, surrounded by a devastating gravitational field.

My latest research indicates that the paradoxical features of quantum mechanics are caused by vacuum fluctuations. How conservation of energy generates quantum interference phenomena can be read in arxiv.org/abs/2010.02019
