Depending on how we interpret the Ancient CHamoru calendar, this week could mark the the beginning of Tumaiguini, or CHamoru New Year's. For the past 10 years, cultural groups have organized Lukao Fuha, a pilgrimage to Fouha Rock in Humåtak. Images from last year's Lukao.

Advertisements and promotions from the CHamoru Village from 1995. I Sengsong CHamoru was originally started as a public market for local farmers in 1978, with its current location officially opened in 1994 in Hagåtña. The famous Wednesday Night Market was first started in 1997.

"Ha'ånen Kasamiento: Evolving CHamoru Wedding Traditions" the newest exhibit at the Guam Museum opens tomorrow as part of the "Weddings in Paradise Expo from 9 am - 4 pm at the museum. If you can't make it to the expo, this free exhibit will be open to the public starting 1/28.

The Weddings in Paradise Expo is happening at the Guam Museum this Saturday, (1/25) from 9 am - 4 pm. The expo will debut "I Ha'ånen Kasamiento," a new exhibit focusing on evolving CHamoru wedding traditions. With that in mind, here are some pages from the 2006 Guam Bridal Guam.

The GovGuam Administration Building in Hagåtña in 1966. The building was built in two parts, first in 1958 and later in 1965. In 1989, the building was dedicated to former Governor of Guam Manuel Flores Guerrero. Despite its historic importance, it was demolished in 2015.

The installation of our next exhibit is currently underway, Ha'ånen Kasamiento focusing on changing CHamoru wedding traditions opens 1/25. The Certeza clan of Piti, Guam stopped by last month to images in honor of Tun Gabrial and Tan Maria Certeza to be included in the exhibit.

An image of Humåtak in the late 1700s. For roughly the first half of Guam's Spanish colonial period, Humåtak was used as the primary anchorage for ships visiting the island. As such it is featured prominently in early artist renderings of the island and island life such as this.
