@jbendery During my university orientation we were told that there were nondenominational services in the chapel each day. The professor then said "of course, nondenominational means Protestant" Only us Catholic students laughed at that.

@jbendery Don’t Catholics have their own Good Friday services to go to? Why would they even want to attend a Protestant service? I’m Orthodox so our Good Friday isn’t until next week… but I would not go to a Protestant church for the occasion.

A 96 year old man, from Donegal, a terminal cancer patient, was deeply distressed being so far from his home and his 94-year-old wife, who was unable to make the long journey to Galway hospital to see him. In a race against time, the Irish Air Corps stepped in on humanitarian grounds, airlifting him by helicopter to Letterkenny University Hospital in County Donegal. To make it happen, medical teams at both hospitals coordinated seamlessly, including another patient in Letterkenny who selflessly volunteered to move to a trolley just to free up a bed for him. He arrived to the cheers of his waiting family and was able to share a final, peaceful reunion with his wife before passing away just a few hours later. 🇩🇪 In Germany, a Turkish teenager who shot a police officer multiple times has been acquitted of murder and will avoid prison — after telling a court he was often in a "bad mood" due to a lack of prospects. Police officer Simon Bohr, 34, was shot in the head, face, neck, shoulder, abdomen, and back after the suspect robbed a gas station, stole a police weapon, and opened fire during his arrest last August. The gunman admitted to the killing, but claimed he had fired as he was in fear of his own life, telling psychiatrists that he was scared the police would kill him, 'like they do in the United States.' Prosecutors pushed for a 13-year sentence for murder. Instead, the court only convicted him of aggravated robbery and ruled he had diminished responsibility due to schizophrenia and anxiety, ordering psychiatric detention instead of prison. The defendant had been on a concoction of medication prescribed to him by a doctor while he was back in Turkey. The officer’s widow sat opposite the man who killed her husband in court. "Such verdicts leave one stunned — and amount to a free pass for all future perpetrators," said AfD co-leader Alice Weidel. Rainer Wendt, federal chairman of the German Police Union, said, "I am speechless at such a verdict, and my thoughts are with the bereaved family of our colleague. They deleted my comment almost immediately and then turned off comments entirely. It’s pretty disgraceful for a campaign on consent to not even check who they have as the face of the campaign. Craig Maguire was notoriously petitioned by Trinity SU and students to be removed as president, after he brought and effigy onto campus and plastered survivors of rape and assaults stories all over campus without their consent. His assertion that he had any expectation of how to behave is laughable, particularly the line where he claims he was taught to be quiet, as if he did not stand screaming into a loud hailer while @AnnetteMckay15 spoke about Tuam mother and baby home, calling her and other women “Nazis”. He is a man who speaks over women and calls us Nazis if we don’t consent to him in our single sex spaces with us, because he is male. So to have him talk about consent, is well and truly a kick in the teeth.
