Today our hearts are heavy -- for ourselves, yes. But especially for #CanadianPenny's dear family, who have lost the brightest light. We don't know all of you in the real, but we do know that this DogX community is the most loving and caring ever. We get so close to all of you, and love you all as if you were right here with us. We can't take the pain away from dear Penny's family. We only can express how deeply sorry we are for their loss, and how that Rainbow Bridge must be the sweetest place if it can hold the magic that was darling Penny. We loved her dearly, as we love every single one of you, and as our tears flow for real, we know that somewhere out there she is sticking out her tongue at her mama and holding her mama's heart gently and carefully as it is so broken. I saw a post of someone asking if you would give up 5 years of your life for your dog. People were commenting that it was wild to do that, that your life is magnitudes more important than a dog’s life. To that I say: I would give my dog five years of my life in second and here is why. Bunsen is our older Bernese Mountain Dog. Knock on wood his health continues to be good and he will turn nine this year. For those nearly 9 years Bunsen has been nothing but the purest creature in my life. He consoled our family through grief as a puppy. He saved our tiny Golden from a coyote attack without even thinking. Two years later he led us to a dog that was dying in the freezing winter. He has made numerous public appearances bringing joy to science centres, comic cons, and delivering letters from Santa to small children. He has brought a stuffed animal to a young boy who lost his dad. Bunsen has earned a longer life than what dogs are given, but I guarantee that each person who has a dog, has stories of bravery, compassion, and kindness too. Bunsen is no different than any other dog. If my time on Earth is less so that a creature like Bunsen gets more- I would take that trade in a heartbeat. And so would every one else who has loved a dog.
