@gulfergulfer hello, huge nerd here. “emoticon” is a portmanteau of western origin, but emoji is an entirely different character language invented in japan. the “emo” (surprisingly) doesn’t come from “emotion” but rather 絵(e) meaning “drawing/painting” and 文字(moji) meaning “writing system”
