With a week to reflect, I’m convinced this was the greatest moment in sports history. A 2-star recruit leads the worst program ever to a national championship, beats his hometown team that wouldn’t let him walk on, and finishes it by running over the same guy who knocked him out the year before, with his mother battling MS watching from the stands. If it was a Disney movie, you’d say it was too much.

@ChrisCillizza “Pro-Trump” in 2016 is vastly different than “pro-Trump” now. With the exception of overturning abortion rights, there is no issue that makes him a “successful” Republican. Lots of evidence makes him anti-democracy. Giving voice to propaganda is not conducive to our system.

I get that it's easy to dunk on NBC for hiring Ronna Romney McDaniel in the first place. But, I actually think the whole episode raises a bigger (and more complex) question for the media: How do you fairly give voice to the 74 million people who voted for Donald Trump in 2020 -- and catapulted him to the GOP nomination this time around? Or should you? Trump has made it extremely difficult. Because he has made election denialism a litmus test for entry into his Republican party. So the only way someone could actually have some sense of what he (and his party base) are thinking is to believe (or at least be willing to say) something that is false and dangerous: That the 2020 election was stolen. I don't believe we should platform that view. But, I also struggle with simply refusing to put ANY pro-Trump voice on TV. I wrote about it all in my just-published newsletter. @EDUwithEmily @Brujatoxica I use to teach in a Maryland suburb with a high Jewish population. It wasn’t as much about the students but all the teachers that were also Jewish & would need subs on the holidays.

@Brujatoxica But there are Jewish people everywhere, so it would need to be decided if those holidays are celebrated or if students get a religious exception those days.

Why doesn’t the country just have one set public school schedule? Teachers start and end a specific day. Students start and end a specific day. Holidays where schools are closed are established for all. Am I missing something? Why wouldn’t this work?

@Angela_Watson I am retiring after 30 years as a teacher (HS English). You are right, spending personal time&money undermines larger funding efforts. However, the people making decisions know teachers will not take things away-both services and materials-from their students to make a point.

Do you think that teachers spending personal money (and personal time) on their classrooms undermines any larger long-term effort to fully fund public education?

@mbcourtneyedd Because it is usually centers on deficit thinking. The teachers are “lacking” in some area and the the “professional learning” will fix it.
