Awesome to share stories of resuming fieldwork in @VDBChemGroup with @CBCQuirks! We unlocked a new level this summer working with the Fatima team and Atlantic Condor crew in thick fog for weeks on the Grand Banks and around Sable Island! @MEOPAR_NCE @halifax_fog

Aboard a ship converted into a mobile lab this summer, @YorkUScience Prof Trevor VandenBoer @TVandenBoer talks to @CBCQuirks about the nitty-gritty of fog droplets & the surprising variability of fog off the Atlantic coast. Listen at 41:35 bit.ly/3DGwLNn

@annwmac Good question. This is something that @Pat_wx is working on trying to quantify with our collaborators.

@halifax_fog If climate change significantly warms the Gulf Stream, will that result in more persistent fog on the Grand Banks?

@awhspeed @AwesomeBiota Sea smoke or steam fog because it forms in the same way that the steam from your kettle forms. Warmer water vapour encountering colder air.

@AwesomeBiota The kind of directional fog is more common in the summer (in fact is my Twitter profile background). I call the wispy stuff in very cold weather sea smoke, but this looks more like legit fog. @halifax_fog could probably weigh in more on the distinctions!

It’s currently foggy! But *only* over the water with near-zero visibility. Everywhere else is totally clear. I’ve seen this happen over the River before, but never over the harbour! So cool.
