The rational fear of those who dislike economic inequality is that the rich will convert their economic power into political power: that they'll tilt elections, or pay bribes for pardons, or buy up the news media to promote their views.

@davidgobaud @paulg And seems that you do indeed love the taste of fascist boot. I don't see the appeal in grovelling to a dictator myself. But that is what MAGA is, none of you have any self respect, you will repeat any lie he tells you and believe it.

@davidgobaud @paulg If you watch the whole speech it is clear that what Trump wanted was violence. The Kray Twins, a pair of UK gansters used to use very similar language when demanding money with menaces. 'Things break, don't they, wouldn't want that to happen'. He is an evil thug.

It's still rare for tech billionaires to do this. Most do just want to refine their gadgets. That habit is what made them billionaires. But unfortunately I can no longer say that they all do.

@davidgobaud @paulg Funny how you think the remedy for that is a guy who is using the powers of the presidency to silence all opposition to himself, trumped up prosecutions, demanding bribes from ABC, NBC, etc. etc. for allowing journalists to tell the truth about him. Does the boot taste good?

@X1912AmericanX @jaynordlinger @grok You have to pretend you can't see your country disintegrating or you will be sent off to Pokrovsk to become more Cargo 200. We have no need of alliances with countries like Russia who send men on crutches into battle and use their drones mostly to murder their own deserters.

@JDCocchiarella Here is the thing, I don't think AOC has quite the mojo to beat Newsome for the Presidential Nomination. But if she runs for the NY Senate seat, she can almost certainly retire Schumer. I think he would call it a day rather than lose the primary to her.

@X1912AmericanX @jaynordlinger And the Russian bot enters the chat. What exactly are we supposed to be trading with Putin's failed state? All they have is oil and gas which we don't need. Every Russian tank, every plane, every soldier 'retired' by Ukrain is a tank, plane or soldier will never fight us.

@jaynordlinger Get over it, Boomer. We are done with the "Russian ID the boogeyman" story from the 50's. Geographically and logistically, trade with Russia is intelligent.

@jaynordlinger You are only thinking about the Ideology band of MICE. There are two Republicans whose careers since the 1980s shriek of having been recruited through a combination of Coercion, Money and Ego. I am certain both have been active placing other agents into the US establishment.

@paulg @tyler__palmer It's bots, they exist to sow division. Some people are nasty, sure, but it's the bots that give them permission to get in the soup. Bots can get anything trending/to the top on any platform.

There is something deeply wrong with Twitter. It has always been rough here, but in the past year it has become an even worse kind of nasty. Do you think maybe it's time to try to turn things around, Elon?

Yesterday I became a father. I shared a photo of my newborn daughter, and many of you sent beautiful messages. Thank you. But I’ve had to delete it. The vile racism and hate directed at an innocent soul less than a day old was beyond depraved.

@paulg @tyler__palmer The bot problem is constant on all platforms. How do you filter them out from a well typed reasonable argument? Build a twitter competitor. That’s American capitalism. 😉 But seriously thanks Paul for the essays and hackernews. I couldn’t have done it without them.

@paulg @tyler__palmer You don't think skewing the discussion to give the loudest voices to neo-NAZIs, giving priority to paid posters and the owner prancing about making Hitler salutes had anything to do with it? That is totally why this has become The Bad Place.

@tyler__palmer I'm not sure. Maybe bots, maybe followers of a few really nasty people, maybe a lot of individual nut jobs. But I suspect someone looking at the internal data could see what was going on.

@paulg I have no idea why anyone stays here. Before Elon, I used to check Twitter many times a day, now I visit once or twice a month if that. I have no time for arguments in venues that have been intentionally skewed towards people with the same vile hatreds as Space NAZI.

I want to know if Lachlan Murdoch agrees with Brian Kilmeade, his employee who advocates murdering people for being homeless. People should ask him that question to his face in public until he sacks him.

BREAKING: MSNBC's Ali Velshi calls Michael Mann a good friend and says he has "relied" on Mann in "some of the most important moments in our history." In the wake of Charlie Kirk being assassinated, Mann reposted comments calling Charlie Kirk the "head of Trump’s Hitler Youth." Mann also wrote: "The white on white violence has gotten out of hand." REMINDER: Mann is a court-sanctioned liar, sanctioned for "knowingly feeding the jury false data" in a manner of misconduct that was "extraordinary in its scope, extent, and intent." Mann also previously called for people to take up arms and form a militia against Trump. @VelshiMSNBC @AliVelshi DID NOT ask Mann about his deranged comments or that fact Mann has said that the Republican Party should be "destroyed" or that individuals like Peter Thiel and Rupert Murdoch, Charles Koch should viewed like Bin Laden and the Al Qaeda 9/11 attackers.
