"Self-Image Problem" - a cartoon by Mysh Rozanov from 2012
The tattoos are popular Israeli sayings: "A good Arab is a d*ad Arab", "Let the IDF crush", "D*ath to Sudanese", "Never forget, never forgive", "Russians to Russia, Ethiopians to Ethiopia!", "Run over every Dos (Orthodox Jew)", "What doesn't work with force, works with violence"

English

@ireallyhateyou Stupid anti Jewish bias. You'll never understand what it's like to be the victim. I have hate in me and as a victim I'm ALLOWED to lash out.
English

🧵I told you it's an Israeli tradition: here's a fresh batch of IDF soldiers, female and male, taking selfies with Palestinian hostages to post on social media. Photos like these are proudly posted every single day by IDF war criminals. I've personally archived hundreds of them.

Female IDF soldiers posting humiliating footage of Palestinian hostages as part of their end-of-service posts is a long-time Israeli tradition.

@oliveegirl there are a few thousand sudanese refugees in israel and there's a *lot* of racism against them

@KenGardner11 Anyone who thinks Ayn Rand has anything to say of importance has not aged mentally beyond the age of 14
English

One of Ayn Rand's very best observations, which has aged like fine wine:
"Socialism is not a movement of the people. It is a movement of the intellectuals, originated, led and controlled by the intellectuals, carried by them out of their stuffy ivory towers into those bloody fields of practice where they unite with their allies and executors: the thugs."

@SethAckerman This is exactly it, despite their protestations to the contrary, Israelis fear "safety" far more than anything
English

the actual fear of israelis is that movement toward a 2ss would lead to a civil war launched by armed jewish religious fundamentalists. their fear of that scenario is so profound and so psychologically paralyzing that they tend to mentally sublimate it into the opposite scenario, where it's the other side's armed fundamentalists who launch the imagined war.
obviously in the real world hamas didn't attack israel because there was movement toward a 2ss but because there was no movement, despite hamas's many overtures to israel on the subject going back years. the other day, israel got so panicked by hamas's acceptance of a us-backed disarmament plan, which contained vague mention of a possible future palestinian state, that it spasmodically carpet bombed yet more families living in tents in gaza.
israelis dread the prospect of hamas disarming because they prefer the feeling of being threatened by hamas to the feeling of being threatened by civil war. and they're right to fear their fundamentalists: the oslo agreement contained only an implicit hint of possible statehood in some indefinite future, yet its signing was followed within months by baruch goldstein's massacre of palestinians in hebron (which provoked hamas for the first time to target civilians in israel) and then yigal amir's murder of rabin a year later.
the problem is that the israelis are trapped. when they're not under international pressure to compromise with palestinians, the fundamentalists only get politically stronger (viz the 2022 elections), but when they do respond to pressure to compromise it provokes the fundamentalists into becoming even more threatening (viz goldstein and amir).
israelis need more pressure. it serves as a form of exposure therapy. the outbursts of pinker's colleagues are a sign that the therapy is working
Steven Pinker@sapinker
When I ask Israeli colleagues why there isn't movement toward a 2-state solution, they say, "Because a Palestinian state would instantly be taken over my Hamas, who would launch nonstop suicide bombings, rocket attacks, and 10/7s in a campaign to destroy Israel." The response of Western pro-Palestinians: "Yes!!!!" | Is the Pro-Palestine Movement the Israeli Right’s Unlikely Ally? open.substack.com/pub/quillette/…

@krakish_musta @sha_khadi @Jvnior So if I post a video from WWII I can say “live” because it was filmed live at the time?
English

@halvardous @sha_khadi @Jvnior If only you could read, you’d notice it says “live footage” as in “actual footage,” not necessarily “happening live right now.”
English

@sha_khadi @Jvnior I quite clearly didn't state that it did, but posting things as "live" for clicks is just lame
