@richjallen Yes. My interest is mainly in second language learning & WM. Actually I was Paula’s student and you helped me out a few years ago with the working memory design😀 I just finished my studies at Leeds and looking for jobs so not sure if still based here.

@handan_lv Great, thanks, I'll see if I can apply it to some datasets. I just saw from your profile that you were at Leeds and interested in working memory among other things. Are you still based in Leeds?

Trying to come up with some R code to pull out matching strings from within pairs of sequences. Needs to repeat across multiple sequence pairs and track outcomes. I know its possible but I keep bumping up against my (low) R ceiling. Anyone help me out?

@richjallen This is something that I have used in my research. Not sure if this will help.

@handan_lv I’m looking for all n-grams. That’s the idea anyway! It’s based on manual scoring I used to do (e.g. doi.org/10.1016/j.jml.…) but I’d like to automate the process.

@richjallen Would you make the comparison element-wise or just search for any n-gram? e.g. 21973895 vs 21978953. If do element-wise, the result will be only (2197). However, for n-gram, the result will be (2197 and 895).

@handan_lv Thanks @handan_lv will take a look. I want to compare e.g., 21973789 vs 219773894 & pull out any matching chunks (e.g. 2197 and 89). I've got a v. clunky toy version working using str_extract, but getting this to automate & repeat for multiple comparisons is currently beyond me.

3 weeks ago, it was confirmed my son has Aspergers. It took 3 yrs to get the diagnosis. I'm parenting him alone, while we're both in the early stages of grief for his dad, while I hold down a FT academic job, in the middle of a pandemic. Excuse me if I feel a little overwhelmed.
