The season is still young, but a 1st look at off. & def. efficiency shows that Füchse are doing very well in attack. Flensburg have the best defence. Eisenach is better than average in attack, but not in defence. This was even clearer last season. Reasons in the link above. 👆

@HBSstatz Yeah, definitely there is so much to do. I finally finished my xG model a few weeks ago based on exact shot positions from Kinexon data (and manually added missing data) and will publish an article on it next week.

Thanks man! No haven’t done the research there but agree it probably isn’t. Expected variables haven’t been a very common thing in handball but I think it can be a pretty useful tool to support game/team/player analysis. For example in game analysis you can see a clear drop/rise in xG difference but not necessarily in the shooting%. For players over season, having a + diff indicates you are shooting better than expected and wise versa. Same applies for the xS variable. We will at least continue our work on expected data and see were it leads us 📊

@HBSstatz Very interesting stuff! Have you done any research whether xP are actually as predictive as in football? Because my theory is that it isn't. As luck is much less a factor in handball because of the many goals that are scored my guess is that finishing better than expected...

Sporting CP is the positive surprise of the Machineseeker EHF Champions League season. They are great offensively and even better defensively, yet still incredibly young. 👉 ehfcl.eurohandball.com/men/2024-25/ne…

The field all-time scoring list is lead by right backs. The all-time per game scoring list is absolutely dominated by left backs. So is the real "Königsposition", the king's position rather right back than left back? 📖 daikin-hbl.de/de/more/conten…

@handballytics As it is not the keeper but the defence that determines the distance & ankle of a shot, can you quantity the effect of the defence on a keeper's save percentage? By how many percentage points does the save percentage increase of a keeper when his defence gets better?

The number of saves was the least meaningful goalkeeper statistic to predict the result of the game last @ehfcl Women, net save percentage, which counts only saves that lead to possession for the defending team, was the most meaningful. ➡️More: ehfcl.eurohandball.com/news/en/focus-…

On the men’s side of #Olympics #Paris2024 Denmark is clearly the dominating team. Their offence seems just unstoppable. If anything, it's their defence that offers Germany chances in the final. Germany themselves have good numbers in both attack and defence.

The two best teams of the women's #Handball #Olympics tournament are also in the final. Hosts France impressed with by far the best offence according to the raw and adjusted data. Their opponents in the final, Norway, clearly have the best defence.

@MPrvan Yeah, probably a bit but at least garbage time is filtered out in the adjusted stats

For the men’s competition Denmark clearly has the best numbers. They dominate offensively once again. Defensively they are good as well, however, adjusting their numbers to the strength of their opponents and filtering out garbage time their defense drops from first to the sixth.
