Dear Agripreneur, "Out of the eater came forth meat, Out of the strong something sweet" Despite difficulties, something good can emerge. Even in tough circumstances, unexpected benefits or solutions can arise. Don't be discouraged. #StrengthInAdversity #MentalWellBeing

One of the reasons people say farming is not profitable or that you cannot build wealth from it in Nigeria is because some farmers unintentionally reinforce that narrative. Profitability is not only about how hard you work on the farm, it is also about how well you manage yourself and the resources available to you. I know a young farmer around 30 to 33 years old in my host community. Very strong, energetic, and highly sought after, someone who could clear a hectare of land in just three days on his own. He owned his farm and still took on extra labor. No days off. If he wasn’t working for one farmer, he was working for another or on his own land. He earned well. But whenever you saw him, he looked worn, like a starved lion that refused to rest. At some point, he developed a serious leg condition from field exposure (commonly called Eni ule in Igbo language). Instead of seeking proper medical care early, he relied on local remedies and continued working as the condition worsened. Around that same time, he made good money from cassava sales. Rather than prioritizing treatment, he went and bought a motorcycle. Even with the injury, he kept working. He would tie pieces of cloth around the wound to keep flies away and continue riding and laboring, putting more strain on an already damaged leg. It got worse. Maggots started coming out of the wound. The infection worsened to the point where bone became visible. Eventually, one morning he collapsed. What could have been treated early became critical. He was rushed to the hospital and later taken back home (he is from Akwa Ibom). Till today, no one can clearly say where he is or what became of him. Even the motorcycle he bought, nobody knows who later took it. The truth is, farming has its own challenges just like every other business, but farmers also add to the problem. As I said earlier, it is not just about how you start, but what you do with what you have and how smartly you work. Your health Your safety Your food Your tools Your approach All these must align with someone running a business, not someone scavenging for survival. It is non negotiable. Neglecting these does not just harm you as a farmer, it discourages others from joining the system and reinforces the broader belief that agriculture does not pay. If agriculture must be respected and truly profitable, farmers must operate with discipline, technology, and awareness. And like I always say, farming is constant, so there is no need to rush profit. Take your time to study the system and align where it fits you properly. Happy Sunday people of God.

Dear Farmer, You’re so focused on keeping things moving that you don’t even realize you haven’t eaten properly or rested. But you are also part of the system that keeps the farm running. Your well-being is not optional Check in with yourself.

Dear Farmer, When you are physically strong and mentally balanced, you work with greater confidence, clarity, and energy. A healthy farmer is not just more productive, you’re more resilient, more focused, and better prepared to handle the daily challenges that farm life brings.

Dear Farmer, It’s been a while. Just a gentle reminder: 📌 Your health, both mental and physical is not optional. 📌 As you care for your farm, remember to care for yourself too. Take a moment to check in with yourself today. #MentalHealthInAgriculture
