On the youth guarantee, what does 'a guaranteed paid work placement' actually mean? A week? A month? The Bristol pilot scheme offers a two-week placement, but there's no guarantee of a job at the end of it (and it's too soon to know the results). bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@astronaimee Hi Aimée - just meant here's an article that explains what the policy is, rather than the 'politics' of who is rebelling etc.

People would only qualify for PIP if they score ‘four points’ in a single category. What does that actually mean? You could be at risk of choking, need help to wash hair or lower limbs, need prompting to go to the toilet - and not qualify.

‘We’ve been left to manage this by ourselves’ @ProtectTheDowns organiser addresses hundreds who’ve gathered to urge the council to stop people living in vans here. Some people from the vans are here too. ‘Only when we listen to everybody’s views are we going to find a solution’

And the wider question, in the context of rising rents… How do you reconcile people who think it’s a totally legitimate decision to live in a van, perhaps in order to cut their costs or their commute, with others who see that as an ‘lifestyle choice’ that shouldn’t be allowed?

Bristol city council says it wants to ‘try’ to make sure there are 250 spaces on designated sites for people living in vans across the city. That would be a big increase from around 60 places right now. But it’s nowhere near the approx 650 lived-in vehicles across the city.
