The Deputy PM privately admitted the Israel Palestine wording was flawed, then still pushed his faction to rubber stamp a two state solution with no explicit requirement that the prescribed terrorist organisation Hamas disarm or the PA reform. Demands that were in the earlier draft were deliberately dropped. The final version got stronger criticism of Israel and weaker accountability on the side that actually starts wars and murders Jews. Jewish Australians are rightly furious. A woman whose father was killed confronting the Bondi gunman put it perfectly: “there’s a profound difference between vaguely condemning terrorism and actually demanding something of a terrorist organisation” Marles told the Right this was about “unity.” Unity that lets Hamas off the hook is not unity. It’s surrender dressed up as compromise. Labor’s platform now looks like it has made peace with a terrorist group that still holds hostages and still calls for Israel’s destruction. This is not balance. This is a disgrace.
