You can do both. When I started I was a student, what that did for me was it taught me and showed me what was obtainable. I saw income from investments as free money. And so It also motivated me to make more money so I can have more money to invest.

If you are still struggling to get by, I don't think you should be looking in the direction of conventional investments like stocks, mutual funds, etc. It won't help you. At least, not for now. What you have is an income problem and income problem needs income solutions. Your priority investment should be investing in anything that will help you get off the low-income quadrant as soon you can. Things like: - Skills - Certifications - Jobs - Businesses Ask yourself... What skills do I need to earn better? Do I have such skills/certifications? If Yes, how do I deploy them to get a better paying jobs or opportunities? If No, how do I learn them so that I can be well positioned to earn better? When you figure out these things, channel all your resources towards them. If you are a businessman, look out for businesses with better income opportunities you can explore. Even if you don't have the capital to start, find a way to learn first. Get the business knowledge and seek for support, partnership, or any form of collaboration that can help you get started. Your most important investment is scaling your income first. A sustainable means of income is the core of financial stability.

Imagine owning 5,000 shares of JEPQ. If it paid $0.64 per share that month, you'd receive about $3,200 in monthly income without selling your investments. JEPQ is an ETF that owns large companies like Apple, Microsoft and Nvidia, and it also uses an options strategy (covered calls) to generate extra income. That extra income is what helps it pay higher monthly distributions than many traditional ETFs. But here's the part most people miss: the payout is not fixed. It changes depending on market conditions and how much income the fund earns from its options strategy, so some months the dividend can be higher and other months lower. This is why I see JEPQ as an income-generating investment, not a guaranteed paycheck. The bigger lesson? Build assets that can eventually pay you, not just a salary that depends on you showing up every day.

Here is an example of the 2D history niche I mentioned. You could literally do this, trust me. You don’t have to even worry about animating each scene/beat and you will still keep doing good.! Best part, the history niche is evergreen and there is always video to make.

Honestly, if you want to go far in YouTube automation, you’ll eventually need to invest in good tools. A good AI voice over, CapCut Pro (or another solid editor), ChatGPT or Claude, and reliable image/video generation tools can save you a lot of time. Gone are the days when you could rely on only free tools for everything. Most of the good ones are now paid. 💰 Don’t get me wrong you can start with free tools to some limit.. But as you grow, reinvesting in better tools can make your workflow faster and your content better. YouTube automation isn’t for the weak. 😂💻💯

Based on this @cowrywise report, at the very minimum, a ₦500k-₦550k salary is the floor. But to live fairly comfortably, an ₦800k-₦850k salary looks more like it. But not everyone can earn that amount, and not every company can pay that amount. Therefore, your work is to identify the sectors/opportunities/jobs with the potential to pay that much. And your job is also to identify the required skills that command that type of income. While at it, remember that you are not the only one eyeing those kinds of opportunities, which means that you have to be very competitive. For the living condition in Lagos, I don't know how to explain it but 500k monthly salary is not competitive in 2026.
