Most understand Pareto Principle (80/20 rule- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_pr…), but I'm pioneering the Klaus Imperative (99/1 rule) The Klaus Imperative dictates that when you find something with steep asymmetrical risk in your favor which grants you high conviction, you have an obligation to go all-in Balance and diversification are naturally more comfortable "places" for people to be in life. "Oh well- if this doesn't work out at least I have xyz thing" Is there anything wrong with comfort, relative safety, and significantly hedging risk? Absolutely not- in most cases. It is the preferred "place" for people to be in life for a reason It's just not the "place" I feel most alive nor the "place" I feel will help you or me achieve the atypical business/personal/financial results we want in the intermediate term If you are blessed with the opportunity to come across something- a person (friend, love interest, mentor), a way to make money, a business idea, etc, that you recognize could change your life, you f*cking go for it Examples: 1. Vacation in Barcelona and friend is contemplating going to talk to a cute girl. I tell him: "well the upside is she's the love of your life, you two stay in touch, fall in love, get married, have two beautiful children, and live out amazing lives together and the down side is you have to overcome your nerves which probably seem pretty insignificant at this point". He approached girl without saying another word Steep asymmetrical risk. Massive upside to relatively no downside. Go try with 100% "effort" (getting a girl is tricky- effort is subjective) 2. I worked at Morgan Stanley and was contemplating leaving to focus on Amazon FBA, develop personal brand, hone entrepreneurial skills. Downside was I'd leave and fail the business, become bankrupt, and live with my parents/find another job Odds of that downside? Low- could be considered a tail risk. I already had proof of concept and saw the risk of success (subjective) to be significantly higher than any sort of crash and burn scenario Upside? I expand the business, multiply my income by a positive integer greater than 1, build connections, achieve time, location, and financial freedom (subjective, but all realized) Steep asymmetrical risk. Massive upside to relatively no downside (I get another job). In process of pedal to the metal / scale, scale, scale mode If you can figure out where to place your biggest bets of effort, you'll set yourself up for explosive success I wish you all luck in applying the Klaus Imperative ;) Cheers
