@unclebobmartin @Terabytesoftw Here is what a human programmer can do that an AI cannot. Make sense of the odd requests that come from the business users, which happens every day BTW. The day an AI can make sense of that nonsense then yes, we are out of a job. I am not holding my breath.

@Terabytesoftw Being _able_ to write code by hand will remain an essential skill for some time to come. The only way to keep that skill sharp is to stay in practice.

Hot take: In the age of AI, writing code by hand will soon be the craft of programming dinosaurs. The real skill won’t be typing syntax it’ll be designing systems, asking the right questions, and validating what AI delivers. Coding is changing forever. 🦖🤖

@mariofusco If a book can get such an emotional reaction that is a Good Thing. At the very minimum it gets people thinking about the concepts. They may love them, they may hate them, but they are thinking about them. For the record, I like the SOLID concept. And TDD.

I'm tired of seeing this book constantly listed among the books that every sw dev must read. To me it's made 90% of utterly trivial advices and 10% of blatant mistakes (best functions have 0 args 🤦). Evidently I'm missing something. If you liked this book can you explain why?

The SAP conference in Sydney has been great, and it is not over yet. When it finishes at 3:20PM I am going to walk to the "Cargo Bar" in Darling Harbour (10 minute walk). If any SAP types want to join me for a beer fine, if not I will just get my PC out and write out my notes.

Next week is the Australian User Group Summit in Sydney. I ends on 3:20Pm 20th August. There is no closing event so I am going down the "Cargo Bar" afterwards. cargobar.com.au

@JelenaAtLarge I would imagine less then 0.1% of customer Z function modules start with "Z_". BTW try and create a custom database table starting with "Z_" and see what happens...

Funny thing: when creating/copying SAP function modules (FMs), I always thought that "Function module name is reserved..." is an odd way to say "FM created 👍". Turns out message is actually saying to use Z_... in FM name. This is ignored by every customer. 😅 Also, why Z_? 🤷‍♀️

@JelenaAtLarge In the AUS show "Colin from Accounts" at one point a young lady says "I am an INFLUENCER - I don't pay for ANYTHING" which says all you need to know about current society.

The only thing worse than the MS/CrowdStrike outage today is the vapid LinkedIn 'influencer' posts on the subject: "Single update brings the world to its knees! Scary! That's why I 🥇 am an expert / keep money in a pickle jar / don't have anything to say but it's trending" 🤑

I know for a fact that Westpac Banking corporation has a multi-million-dollar IT budget and a huge IT department. Yet the computers cannot add two numbers together (column on right)

I just got this from His Majesty's Revenue and Customs Agency in the UK. how much did it cost them to print this letter and mail it to Australia? they have my email address.
