#apbio Ss made their own memes for review of gene expression unit. It brought some fun back into the sterile distance learning 🙂

@justintarte @Dassel It takes time and effort to hold students accountable without dangling grades over their head. It's tough though as grade penalty is a lot easier

@justintarte @Dassel Proactive discussions with the class about the impact on learning and early intervention once students hand in assignment in late has worked for me. Also, students giving up their time to complete assignment as well.

If a student turns something in late, it doesn’t mean the student knows the content less. Similarly, just because a student turned it in on time, doesn’t mean the student knows the content more. Grade learning, not behaviors.

@howie_hua Unfortunately the infrastructure needs to change to match current pedagogy (or adragogy). Hard to change to student-centred, collaborative lessons in a 400 student lecture hall.

Professors absolutely 100% need to take pedagogy classes. The stories that I'm hearing from students are ridiculous. Content knowledge doesn't substitute for pedagogy.

Fantastic day at Pen Hi - Toys for Tots to Teens was a huge success - thanks to our leadership students, student musicians, Chef Garvey and culinary arts students, PSS admin and staff for hosting - and our amazing community for being so generous!

Love the new liquid chalk markers! We have paper and we have white boards but students loved these. Great way to visualize learning #bio #science

My little helper for collecting pill and sow bugs for the animal behaviour lab. Turns out we didn't need mine as the Ss all brought in their own. #biology

Ss had a great time creating their own animal behaviour lab this week. They created their own choice chambers. #biology
