Abbotsford #Canucks producers since Bennett Schimek joined the lineup:
• Bennett Schimek — 11 GP, 10 points
• Nils Åman — 10 GP, 10 points
• Arshdeep Bains — 11 GP, 8 points
Signing him to an AHL deal was a sneaky low-risk way to evaluate his game — and it’s paid off. He’s been excellent.

**MEGAPOST**
The Canucks drafting and trading for a great group of players and developing none of them into leaders except the guy they traded first (Horvat) is hilarious.
EP40 - Introvert, acknowledges he isn't vocal, not a leader
JT Miller - Prickly, had multiple issues with different players in Vancouver, leads NYR to a bottom 5 pick, not a leader
Quinn Hughes - Articulate, but not a leader in the community or and didn't do enough in the locker room, not a leader.
Filip Hronek - The most prickly with media, vocal, but he was already a finished product more or less in Detroit
Thatcher Demko - Prickly with Fans and Media at times, wants to be here, according to Kevin Woodley, not a leader
Brock Boeser - Most in touch with the fanbase right now, elevates his game in late season + playoff games more than anyone else currently on the team, but his play disappears for long stretches and becomes invisible, not a leader
Bo Horvat - Good with the media, wasn't the most physically involved in scrums but was almost always in touch with the Canucks fanbase, and elevated himself in the clutch. The last captain to play with Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
It's almost like in order to create new leaders, you need to have an organization full of great leaders to show the young guys the ropes!
Canucks leadership at ownership and management have done the following since the Sedins left:
- Let Edler & Tanev go in b2b offseasons (players who became leaders under the Sedins)
- Laid off 25% of business staff in July 2020, and went from 200 to 45 full time business staff by November 2020
- Reduced Employee Wages 3 times in 3 months to the point where most employees were only being paid 65% of their initial salary and had to utilize the Canadian Emergency Wage Subsidy
- Let important pieces walk and replaced them with budget pieces (Tanev and Toffoli leaving for $8.75M combined and replacing them with Virtanen, Holtby, Poolman, all of whom were bought out or put on LTIR)
- Fired Green and Benning (needed at the time) and replaced them with Boudreau and Jim Rutherford without conducting a formal search, and didn't even tell JR about Boudreau's contract.
- Let JR run a half assed GM search where he hired his Pittsburgh buddy
- Treated Boudreau like garbage, publicly, fired him
- Told Horvat they were going to re-sign him, pivoted to Miller, and then traded Horvat, even though Miller was the problem at that point in time
- Extended Elias Pettersson against the coach's wishes, traded away his best linemate, had him play through knee tendonitis, lied about the injury, and then told Miller and Hughes to toughen him up (I think the contract at the time was fine, even if his production since has been abhorrent), furthering locker room dissension.
- Failed to retain Rick Tocchet, who despite being disliked by Canucks fans was valuable enough to Rutherford to treat Boudreau like dirt
- Hired Adam Foote to try and keep Hughes, and is clearly out of his element, but are (as of now) unwilling to move off of that mistake
- Are going to hire another rookie GM without doing a full on search, because JR wants to keep a lot of control
That doesn't even include all of the staff that have arrived and left rather quickly, some suddenly (Derek Clancey, Rachel Dorrie/Kryshak), the horrible medical staff, having 4 head coaches, 12 assistant coaches, their inability to develop highly skilled prospects, and lack of practice facilities
All of that, and they've increased season ticket prices by ~ 44% since 2022-23.
Leadership starts at the top with Ownership.
Bad ownership has hired bad presidents in both the business and hockey ops departments, and they hire puppet underlings, treat their subordinates like garbage, use them as fall guys, and that creates apathy and anxiety in employees, which trickles down into the workplace, locker room, and the fanbase as a whole.
Francesco Aquilini,
Sell. The. Team.
