POLICE KILLED AN INNOCENT MAN, LIED ABOUT IT, AND ARRESTED THE WOMAN WHO TOLD YOU In July 2005, Jean Charles de Menezes, an innocent man, was shot dead at Stockwell tube station by Metropolitan Police firearms officers who mistook him for a terrorist. Police initially claimed he was wearing bulky clothing, had vaulted the ticket barriers, and run from officers. None of it was true. But police did not correct the misinformation. They waited until someone forced their hand. That someone was Lana Vandenberghe. A secretary. Not a senior official, not a KC, not a politician. A secretary who sat at her desk at the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) and watched the official story fall apart in front of her. As files passed across her desk, she began to feel that the facts of the case were being misrepresented, or not presented at all, to the public. So she did something about it. Over several weeks, Lana stayed late at the office and used her camera to photograph the evidence, which she then handed to a news producer. She leaked the documents to ITN, which contradicted the official narrative being promoted by the Metropolitan Police. The story broke. The cover was blown. And the state's response? Dawn raids. Vandenberghe was arrested by Leicester Constabulary Serious Crime Unit acting on behalf of the IPCC. Two more dawn raids followed weeks later, including the arrest of the ITN journalist who ran the story and his pregnant girlfriend. Vandenberghe said she was "scared to death" and that it never crossed her mind she would be treated as a criminal for telling the truth. "Unlike the police," she said, "I hadn't killed an innocent person." She lost her job. She lost her home. She was treated for depression. The threat police reportedly considered charging her with? The theft of ink and paper. Ink and paper. The first IPCC inquiry concluded that none of the officers involved would face disciplinary charges. The Crown Prosecution Service later found "insufficient evidence" to prosecute any named individual. No charges were ever filed against Vandenberghe. No charges were ever filed against the officers who killed Jean Charles de Menezes and then lied about it either. Lana has said she would do it all again. She does not consider what she did heroic. She was taught to speak out for the truth, no matter what. She stands by that code today. The system called her a criminal. History called her a witness. At 4.12 am I'm sat at South Mimms services watching the sunrise. My car packed up while away for weekend. The RAC recovered me and vehicle from Bures, which is 99 miles from home at 9pm last night and dumped me at Thurrock Services at 11pm with no info about the 2nd leg. When eventually the next driver arrived at 1.45pm he informed me he was dropping me yo South Mimms which if travelling on M25 is further from my destination than Thurrock. After being dumped at South Mimms and an hour trying to get RAC to answer the phone, my new estimated arrival of 3rd driver is between 7 & 10am which is an absolute piss take and they refuse to confirm that the next driver will take me to my destination. Considering I'm registered disabled and s Blue Badge holder the service is a disgrace and certainly not what they advertise. If they don't arrive until 10 am, that will mean it will have taken RAC 13hrs to transport me 64 miles. An average of 4.9 miles an hour. I would advise anybody yo think twice before taking out their breakdown cover. As a sub note, when I reported the breakdown I told them I was sat on a fishery and as its a bank holiday I would have been happy for them to pick me up at around midnight to avoid traffic and their busy time. They told me they can't do that. What an absolute joke of a company!

Netflix has operated the largest production studio in the last 15 years (Grok estimates over $135B in expenditure) and there is basically no cultural legacy with any of the output. No enduring brands, no iconic films, all the content will just be forgotten in the ether.
