An Ontario government appointee to @UofT’s Governing Council is using his institutional power to target students, smear professors, and push policies that restrict dissent. This isn’t about “free speech” it’s about using his power to silence opposition. 🧵#ONpoli

Today, @UofT is platforming Dr. Rachel Spitzer at a "Refugee Health Primer." This is the same faculty member who actively campaigned to shut down the North American Refugee Health Conference (#NARHC 2025). Unconscionable hypocrisy. 🧵 x.com/SMohyeddin/sta…

Israel is breaking the laws of humanity, engaged in a cycle of escalating aggression and impunity. This learned behaviour is modeled after settler-colonial states like Canada. I am the daughter of a Coast Salish woman whose ancestors survived the brutality of genocide and colonial erasure by taking their survival into their own hands, protecting and caring for one another. Indigenous resistance is more than a tradition: it is an obligation. I am joining the Freedom Flotilla Coalition’s Women’s boat to Gaza, part of a global effort to break the siege on Gaza NOW. Our boat is named the Hind Rajab, honouring a beautiful little Palestinian girl killed while pleading for help to come. We will come. We are all women, and all healthcare providers. We are lawful, peaceful, and humanitarian. My mothers farewell words to me: “Your ancestors are sea-bearing people. You have nothing to be afraid of. The ocean knows you and will protect you. Whatever happens, you will be guided.” Free Palestine. @CanadaBoatGaza

You know, the killing is so relentless that you almost get used to it. A classroom of children killed every single day. You write about it, you read about it. Someone’s mother digs herself up from the rubble. Someone’s father is split in half. There was a video of wounded man using his arms to crawl across the road. Another man is so hungry he weeps. You read the stories. Each one is more brutal than the next and somehow the brutality is banal. You are numb, for better or for worse. But there are moments in the day, maybe just a singular moment, when you actually contend with the magnitude of the tragedy, when you are able to quantify the loss and in those moments you feel crushed—there are no adjectives. There are people mourning their lovers. Students missing their teachers. Orphans. Widowers. Grandmothers who look just like your own. I cry when I think about the people who were martyred just hours before they could apologize for something, or confess to something, or have something to eat. Or the slain who believed they would survive. And as the rancid rotten people of the world pontificate and debate the definition of genocide, you are at war with yourself, trying desperately to ignore the material meaning of the word. You read the news and you read the news and it is so hard to accept that the dead, the thousands of people they are slaughtering, they are your loved ones and your loved ones’ loved ones. This isn’t just a bad dream.

We stand firmly with the 10,000 @AirCanada flight attendants on strike who refuse to work for free and are bravely defying @MarkJCarney's undemocratic back-to-work legislation. The flight attendants’ struggle is the struggle of all workers. #Solidarity #StopWageTheft
Tony Tracy@Tony_Tracy

CUPE National President Mark Hancock makes it absolutely clear (while tearing up the CIRB order): “This strike will end when we get a Collective Agreement that works for our members.” Not before. Workers decide. #AirCanadaStrike #UnpaidWorkWontFly #canlab #AirCanada #cdnpoli

🚨 URGENT CALL TO ALL WORKERS: DEFEND AIR CANADA CUPE COMPONENT WORKERS’ RIGHT TO STRIKE 🚨 Where: Toronto Pearson International Airport, Terminal 1
When: 9:00 AM, Tomorrow - August 17 The federal government is moving to trample the Charter-protected right to strike forcing binding arbitration and back-to-work orders that strip workers of free and fair collective bargaining. This is unconstitutional government overreach. If they get away with it here, this sets a dangerous precedent. ✊🏾Join the labour movement at Toronto Pearson. Solidarity with Air Canada flight attendants. Defend the right to strike. #cdnpoli #onpoli @waltonmom

Israel has “killed more journalists than the U.S. Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War (including the conflicts in Cambodia and Laos), the wars in Yugoslavia in the 1990s and 2000s, and the post-9/11 war in Afghanistan, combined” watson.brown.edu/costsofwar/pap…
أنس الشريف Anas Al-Sharif@AnasAlSharif0

This is my will and my final message. If these words reach you, know that Israel has succeeded in killing me and silencing my voice. First, peace be upon you and Allah’s mercy and blessings. Allah knows I gave every effort and all my strength to be a support and a voice for my people, ever since I opened my eyes to life in the alleys and streets of the Jabalia refugee camp. My hope was that Allah would extend my life so I could return with my family and loved ones to our original town of occupied Asqalan (Al-Majdal). But Allah’s will came first, and His decree is final. I have lived through pain in all its details, tasted suffering and loss many times, yet I never once hesitated to convey the truth as it is, without distortion or falsification—so that Allah may bear witness against those who stayed silent, those who accepted our killing, those who choked our breath, and whose hearts were unmoved by the scattered remains of our children and women, doing nothing to stop the massacre that our people have faced for more than a year and a half. I entrust you with Palestine—the jewel in the crown of the Muslim world, the heartbeat of every free person in this world. I entrust you with its people, with its wronged and innocent children who never had the time to dream or live in safety and peace. Their pure bodies were crushed under thousands of tons of Israeli bombs and missiles, torn apart and scattered across the walls. I urge you not to let chains silence you, nor borders restrain you. Be bridges toward the liberation of the land and its people, until the sun of dignity and freedom rises over our stolen homeland. I entrust you to take care of my family. I entrust you with my beloved daughter Sham, the light of my eyes, whom I never got the chance to watch grow up as I had dreamed. I entrust you with my dear son Salah, whom I had wished to support and accompany through life until he grew strong enough to carry my burden and continue the mission. I entrust you with my beloved mother, whose blessed prayers brought me to where I am, whose supplications were my fortress and whose light guided my path. I pray that Allah grants her strength and rewards her on my behalf with the best of rewards. I also entrust you with my lifelong companion, my beloved wife, Umm Salah (Bayan), from whom the war separated me for many long days and months. Yet she remained faithful to our bond, steadfast as the trunk of an olive tree that does not bend—patient, trusting in Allah, and carrying the responsibility in my absence with all her strength and faith. I urge you to stand by them, to be their support after Allah Almighty. If I die, I die steadfast upon my principles. I testify before Allah that I am content with His decree, certain of meeting Him, and assured that what is with Allah is better and everlasting. O Allah, accept me among the martyrs, forgive my past and future sins, and make my blood a light that illuminates the path of freedom for my people and my family. Forgive me if I have fallen short, and pray for me with mercy, for I kept my promise and never changed or betrayed it. Do not forget Gaza… And do not forget me in your sincere prayers for forgiveness and acceptance. Anas Jamal Al-Sharif 06.04.2025 This is what our beloved Anas requested to be published upon his martyrdom.

A month ago, Diogo Jota died an a car accident. The whole world mourned him. His photos were everywhere. Today Israel killed a soccer star while seeking aid. No one will hear about him. No one will see his photo. No one will mourn him except for his family and friends.

Very shocking: Israel has just killed Palestinian national team star Suleiman al-Obeid while waiting for aid in Rafah. I remember hearing his name all the time when the score of matches were announced. He was the top scorer of Gaza in 2016 and 2017. He played mostly for Khadamat al-Shati Club and Gaza Sports Club. He also played al-Amaari FC in the West Bank (2009-2013). He was named “The Pelé of Palestine.” RIP.
