#TwishaSharmaCase | The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sought a five day custody of accused retired judge Giribala Singh and a 5 day extension of Samarth Singh's remand. The same has been granted by a district court in Bhopal and they are set to remain in CBI custody till June 2nd.

*Order given by High Court* | Giribala Singh's anticipatory bail cancelled by HC Giribala Singh suffered a major legal setback after the High Court of Madhya Pradesh quashed the anticipatory bail granted to her by a Bhopal sessions court. Justice Devnarayan Mishra held that the trial court failed to properly consider crucial prosecution material, including witness statements, WhatsApp chats and postmortem findings. The High Court observed that multiple family members had consistently alleged harassment, dowry demands and pressure on the deceased to terminate her pregnancy. The court noted that the postmortem revealed six ante-mortem injuries on the body of Twisha Sharma, which doctors said could not have been caused while removing the body from the ligature. The bench criticised the sessions court for allegedly relying heavily on defence documents while overlooking material collected during the early stage of investigation. The order records allegations that Giribala Singh failed to cooperate with investigators despite repeated notices issued by the probe agency. The court also took note of allegations that selective CCTV footage from the house was leaked publicly during the ongoing investigation, raising concerns over possible tampering with evidence. The Central Bureau of Investigation, represented by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, argued that custodial interrogation may be necessary given the “mystery” surrounding the death and the alleged influence of the accused. Senior Advocate Nitya Ramkrishnan had opposed the plea, arguing that there were no overwhelming circumstances warranting cancellation of bail already granted. Allowing the petitions filed by both the prosecution and the victim’s father, the High Court finally ruled that the anticipatory bail order dated 15 May 2026 “is hereby quashed”, effectively removing Giribala Singh’s protection from arrest.
