It is an honor to be awarded a competitive grant from the Hempfield Area School District Foundation Funds. Thanks to this support, 5th graders in Maxwell Library classes are diving into nonfiction through Immersive Reality books that use virtual and augmented reality.

In Library class, we explored fun RIASEC options inspired by Zeke the Weather Geek and Snowflake Bentley! Students tried hands‑on weather activities, looked closely at snowflakes and made art, analyzed simple data, and talked with classmates about what they learned.

Students created questions from Zeke the Weather Geek, then played a peer-made Blooket boosting higher-order thinking, ownership, and assessment through gamified review. Bonus: the winner used my name as their username—made me smile!

After a visit from the Grinch, students designed thoughtful vacation itineraries sending him to well-known landmarks. Their Seesaw projects demonstrated research, creativity, and presentation skills. The Grinch might be a bit travel-weary after all that careful planning! @Seesaw

Ready to meet some unique creatures? In their Library class, 5th graders at West Point and Maxwell created Scranimals. Inspired by Jack Prelutsky’s PA Young Reader’s Choice winner, each sketch had wild features, hilarious names, and a story to match. @Seesaw
