NEW: Charges dropped against man seen being punched in the head by Daytona Beach officer
The city attorney’s office has dropped all charges against 27-year-old David Anderson.
Anderson was arrested in February 2026 for an open container violation and other charges.
Bodycam video showed an officer punching him in the head while he was already handcuffed and on the ground.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave and remains under internal investigation.

David Anderson was stopped Thursday for an open container, then threw a cork at the officer and was taken into custody. While the officer was on Anderson's back, he delivered "distractionary blows" while Anderson had one hand handcuffed. Anderson was seen reaching up and grabbing the officer's hand during the bodycam footage, which is the major discrepancy between the two. Anderson has since retained civil rights attorney Ben Crump to represent him. Crump is demanding accountability from Daytona Beach PD.
