The Giants don't really have a better option here. Jerar Encarnación probably was a better matchup, but you give up something defensively. You'd probably have to replace him with Jared Oliva on defense, which means you use 2 players for 1 at-bat.

The Yankees brought in a lefty pitcher in Tim Hill to face Jung Hoo Lee. Lee struck out in that ab-bat. Prior to that at-bat, He had a career .599 OPS against left-handed pitching.

I don't really understand the point of having a bench full of righties if you're not going to use any of them there ...

I will say, I am going into this year without any preconceived notions about his defense. Historically, he has been among the worst. That said, let's see what he looks like after 60+ games.

I don't want to overreact to one play, but yeah, that hit by Cody Bellinger felt like a play most second basemen make. It's also not just one play, but there's an extensive track record to go off of.
