In a letter to the Indian government, UN experts — including @profbensaul — raised concerns over the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, warning that it enables impunity, arbitrary killings, and widespread abuses across the country. More in my latest tribune.com.pk/story/2608579/…

As our Palestinian brethren mark the 78th solemn anniversary of Nakba, we remember the enduring suffering and displacement of the Palestinians from their homeland since 1948. On this solemn occasion, Pakistan reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters. We demand an immediate end to the oppression, occupation, and violence being perpetrated by Israeli occupation authorities against Palestinians. Pakistan also reaffirms its resolute support for the creation of a sovereign, independent, viable, and contiguous Palestinian State based on pre-June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Our armed forces, backed by the nation, proved that discipline, preparedness, and faith remain Pakistan’s greatest strengths. Whether or not so called operation Sindoor is paused, Pakistan will always respond decisively to any threat against its sovereignty. 2/2

On the first anniversary of Marqa-e-Haq, Pakistan reaffirms its unshakable resolve to defend its territory and sovereignty. The conflict exposed India as a threat to regional peace and stability while demonstrating that aggression against Pakistan carries a heavy cost 1/2

Pakistan strongly condemns the missile and drone attacks on civilian infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates last night. I express full solidarity with His Highness @MohamedBinZayed. Pakistan stands firmly with our Emirati brothers and sisters as well as with the Government of the United Arab Emirates at this difficult time. It is absolutely essential that the ceasefire be upheld and respected, to allow necessary diplomatic space for dialogue leading to enduring peace and stability in the region.

The fact that one year on, India’s defence minister feels the need to give explanations is sufficient evidence of New Delhi continuing to create new ways to sell a narrative that no one but its gullible public is buying. Suffice to say that Pakistan remains fully prepared for any eventuality with absolute clarity.
ANI@ANI

#WATCH | Delhi: At the ANI National Security Summit 2.0, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh says, "...We stopped it (Operation Sindoor) voluntarily, on our own terms, and if necessary, we were fully prepared for a long war. And we also had surge capacity, the ability to expand our capabilities in times of sudden need. Not only did we have it, but we still have it, and it's even more robust than before. Therefore, I don't think there's any need to say anything more..." "During Operation Sindoor, we precisely targeted those who had attacked us. And I want to clarify here again that we didn't stop this operation because our capabilities had diminished. We stopped it voluntarily, on our own terms, and if necessary, we were fully prepared for a long war. And we also had surge capacity, the ability to expand our capabilities in times of sudden need. Not only did we have it, but we still have it, and it's even more robust than before. Therefore, I don't think there's any need to say anything more..."

Umar Khalid, charged under the UAPA for opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act, remains in prolonged pre-trial detention in India, which a UN working group says violates international law. In Delhi, such concerns appear to fall on deaf ears. My latest: tribune.com.pk/story/2604745/…

Was Iceland sitting on the table in three way face to face talks? Or was it trying to end an ongoing war with global consequences? Perhaps you should demonstrate some intellectual patience instead of voicing premature frustration.
Myra MacDonald@myraemacdonald

Ok I am getting tired of this. I wish Pakistan well with the talks but FFS, enough of the Pak nationalism (and Indian alarm). Iceland hosted really important US-Soviet talks in the Cold War. It didn’t change its status. It’s a venue, not a redrawing of the world map.

It was always a mediator and alot of effort has gone in behind the scenes to convince both sides to make it to where we are today - highest level face to face talks between Iran and the US with serious delegations on both sides. Much of the credit is Pakistan’s. The only ones trying to peddle the ‘go-between’ idea were our dear neighbours who are, unfortunately, so delusional these days that they fail to recognize things for what they are.
Michael Kugelman@MichaelKugelman

Pakistan’s role has shifted from facilitator and go-between to direct mediator and peace negotiator (amid reports of 3-way talks taking place in Islamabad). For now at least, Pakistan’s in the driver’s seat in the difficult & delicate effort to guide the US & Iran to an off ramp.

Did these people think they’d get table-side seats to discussions to end a war? I flew 21 hours to be here & knew exactly what I was getting into — there’s no news until there’s news; that’s how these things work. This is unfair to Pakistan, which has been a gracious host.
Mehreen Zahra-Malik@mehreenzahra

Scathing piece: Journalists flown in from around the world to cover US-Iran talks in Islamabad were left sipping coffee in a lavish media centre, with no briefings, no access and little idea what was happening outside. One journalist said, “bored out of my mind.” france24.com/en/live-news/2…
