When you see a Christian bigot directly tell Vivek that “Hinduism is a wicked, pagan religion completely incompatible with America…Christian scripture tells us that all of the gentile gods are devils…” you realize how medieval America really is. No wonder people like Piyush Jindal had to convert to become Bob Jindal, and Nimrata Randhawa had to become Nikki Haley to fit in. Vivek deserves credit for not losing his cool before the bigot but even more for staying Hindu in a climate that looks down upon the most pluralistic faith in the world.
