Rumor is that when Will T. Hatch took over the shop, the accountant asked him to remove all fowl from the shop’s logos to reduce the orders for chicken feed and hatchlings. We’d love to know what Charles and Herbert were thinking, but we still admire the line art and lettering!

#shoplife on the road! We had a ball with students at Austin Peay State University on Thursday, getting inky in their spaaaaacious print studio using a few of our large background blocks and wood type from the Goldsmith Collection at APSU. Print is not dead, friends!

Spotted in the wild! It’s always a hoot and still a bit of a surprise to see posters that have rolled off our ridiculously old printing presses out in the world. It is especially fun to see them “hanging out” in hometown spots with the work of fellow makers from all over.

About thirty percent of our time is spent cleaning up, putting type away, and preparing to print. Making a mess is part of any handmade process, so we don’t dwell on how much cleaning up we do, especially when the mess is as beautiful as this color combo of spilled ink!

Back to work? These presses have been “working” for decades, at least! One of our largest presses is the Miehle Pony, which can print on paper that is 23” x 29,” and our two itty bitty presses can print on 2” x 3” and 3” x 5” respectively!
