𝘐 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘸𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘫𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘴”. She’s describing what killed comedy. The same industry that produced 𝘚𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘥, 𝘍𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴, 30 𝘙𝘰𝘤𝘬, and 𝘊𝘶𝘳𝘣 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘌𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘴𝘮 — shows that built NBC’s empire by making audiences laugh 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 it was uncomfortable — now produces sanitized, pre-approved content designed to offend no one and entertain no one. Kudrow put it simply: “𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦” — the kind where an audience thinks “𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵”. That reaction is now classified as a liability. Studios run scripts through sensitivity readers before they run them past focus groups. The result is shows that feel like corporate HR training with a laugh track. This is what happens when an entire industry surrenders creative freedom to the loudest complainers on social media. The audience didn’t stop wanting edgy comedy — the ratings for reruns of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦 and 𝘚𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘥 on streaming prove that every single quarter. The 𝐞𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 stopped having the spine to greenlight it. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐲. 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐚 𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐬𝐞𝐭. variety.com/2026/tv/news/l…

A friend of mine had shared a horror story years ago that ran a shiver down my spine and I have never had the courage to write it down so far. Because every time I thought of writing it I was worried that I would start imagining it and won’t be able to sleep. I am writing this in day time and will mute the story once I hit post today. Few years ago my friend was pregnant, there was some issues initially so the family kept it hush-hush. Also it was during Covid so there was minimal contact with outsiders. Even I didn’t know she was pregnant at that time. When she was near her due date her contractions started and she went to the hospital. She was hooked up to some machine that reads contractions (I am not sure what it’s called). She was in the labour room for a few hours. All those few hours nurses, junior docs and some cleaning staff kept coming in the room. She told me that she was in so much pain that she barely has any memory of who came in the room and who didn’t. A few junior docs and trainee folks came and a nurse came to tell her that she can’t have water. One of the cleaning staff ladies came and told her that it will get over soon and she will forget all the pain. Like it never happened. By the day end the doctor asked her to get a c sec. She stayed in the hospital for another day. Saw the faces she saw the day before, the nurses, trainee docs, cleaning ladies, etc. The cleaning lady who saw her a day before also came and asked her how she was doing. Then the doctor came and the cleaning maid went away before my friend could answer. The night was chaotic as she woke up multiple times, she sensed as if someone was sitting in the room but she chalked it up to her sleep deprivation. Her husband and mother in law were also sleeping in the same room as the other sharing bed was vacant. She was discharged two days after her delivery, so they went home and now they had to manage the baby on their own. At night my friend started hearing a weird noise, she woke up her husband who was already sleep deprived. In a semi drowsy state he said yes he will go and check but went back to sleep. My friend stayed awake for the next 3 hours and could not sleep and sat down and started crying that she can’t bear the noise. Her husband then went outside to ask the guard. During all this my friend went to peep outside her window to see if she can figure out what the noise was. The windows have a space to keep flower pots, and on that space the cleaning lady was squatting, my friend passed out in her own urine in fear. When she woke up she heard a faint sound ‘You will forget the pain like it never happened’. She straight away went to look for her baby but she couldn’t find the baby anywhere. Her husband came back and asked her why she was panicking and gave a weird look when she talked about the baby. Everyone else forgot that she had a baby she called me one day crying on the phone and narrated the whole story. But the truth is I don’t know if all this really happened or she made it up. Because there’s no record of anything and none of her family member can attest to this story. They did figure out the noise, a machine in the water tank had broken and it was making a loud whirring noise.
