My top 20 leading ladies in American film uo to 1976. Love them without reservations. Here they are and why. Thread. 1/20 Besides her thousand obvious qualities, Carole didn’t adjust to the world, it was the world that adjusted to her.

Some psychedelic movies should belong to our memories and not be revisited. Tommy is such a one.

They didn't hire a hairdresser nor a wig-maker for Barry Lyndon. They hired a wool-carder.

Now showing and watching Shampoo on the big screen. Celebrating the New Hollywood. (This is one of my favorite movies ever).

Rewatching Garbo in The Mysterious Lady. The still below is more or less what the film is about: Garbo leaning back to be kissed.

@davrola What's interesting is that Mamoulian's Becky Sharp, though heavily cut, keeps the Thackeray spirit intact. Thackeray's Barry and Kubrick's Barry are two worlds apart. The first fun, fast and naughty, the second slow, austere and tragic.

@hazelflag Keep meaning to see Barry Lyndon. Also want to read the book. Interesting what you say about the film. Thackeray's Vanity Fair is a favorite of mine and imo, Becky is also "a devilish but charming rogue".

Rewatching Barry Lyndon on the big screen. I like it, but it's startling how Kubrick removed all the comic, picaresque elements from Thackeray's novel, and turned the nominal hero from a devilish but charming rogue into an asshole.

@hazelflag Shallow un accidente. Stella luminosa della mia costellazione di ossessioni. Un’ altra è Robert Mitchum. Beh, so che non interessa, anzi chiedo scusa.
