Can someone explain to me in layman’s terms why $ICP has the greatest tech, the only true web3, but we’re seeing zero adoption and the price keeps falling? This "sacrifice" feature exists because of logarithmic nature of gossip protocol. I vote for 39 nodes.

So either: we have 39 nodes and sub 4 sec latency. Or have 1,000,000 nodes and sub 13 sec latency. There is no in between because 7 sec latency for 1,000 nodes sucks.

Hedera uses gossip-about-gossip protocol with virtual voting to disseminate, fairly order and confirm transactions. Gossip protocol is efficient for permissioned set of nodes. Each node periodically selects a random peer and “gossips” (shares) the new information it has. In each round, roughly twice as many nodes become “informed” as in the previous round. For example, if one node knows the information at the start, then after one round about 2 nodes know it; after two rounds roughly 4; after three rounds about 8; and so on. In general, after "k" rounds, approximately "2^k"nodes will have the information. To cover "n" nodes, you need roughly k≈log⁡2n rounds which in layman's terms mean that find number k (number of rounds) which will be enough to inform "n" nodes, after each node twice as much nodes are "informed" (so 1,2,4,8 and so on). This logarithmic scaling is what makes the gossip protocol efficient for disseminating information even in large networks. Right now, there are 30 governing council members, who run nodes, so we have n = 30 nodes. Latency (time to transaction finality) is at roughly 3 seconds. Let's find number per-round time required: log2(30) = 4.9 rounds (until all nodes are informed). Actual latency = 3 seconds => time per round = 3/4.9 = 0.61 seconds/round (so it takes 0.61 seconds for 1/2/4 nodes to inform 2/4/8 other nodes) Given this, let's try to find what would latency be, if we had 10,000 nodes: latency = per-round time * log2(10,000)= 8.1 seconds. Now, let's graph latency (time to finality) versus number of nodes: y=0.61*log2(n) Basically, having 1,000,000 nodes means sub 13 sec latency. Which is pretty impressive. Ok, probably i should buy more hbars now.
