Scapegoating/attacking equity work provides cover for systems that continue to make life unaffordable and disproportionately harm Black, racialized, and Indigenous people. Equity work is threatening because it reveals what these systems do by centring those most impacted.

What is being accomplished by doing this? One of the main reasons people oppose an enforcement approach is because it leads to this kind of harassment of those who are most vulnerable.

At HCCI we implemented floating holidays to make sure all staff could take celebration days that are meaningful to them without using a vacation day. Policies like this are helpful, but still depend on who your employer is.
