Perhaps the most important issue in international relations currently is barely being discussed. The crucial need for a binding, verifiable and universal treaty on the ethical and safe use of AI. There is a Council of Europe framework and an important UN meeting in July. But I fear this will not be enough and no steps will be taken before Artificial General Intelligence is created and we lose control of the technology. This is why: 1) The US and China view AI as the ultimate strategic advantage. Neither wants to sign a binding treaty that might slow down their own development while a rival potentially cheats. 2) A treaty requires a shared definitions of things we do not agree on, like human rights, safety and so on. The West focuses on privacy and preventing state surveillance. China views AI as a tool for social stability and state-led governance. The Global South often prioritizes economic development over strict regulatory red tape. It is nearly impossible to write a binding law that satisfies all three worldviews. 3) AI evolves in weeks, but treaties take years, or decades, to negotiate. By the time a global treaty is signed and ratified, the specific technology it was meant to regulate (like LLMs) might be obsolete, replaced by something the treaty didn't anticipate, such as Agentic AI or AGI. 4) Unlike nuclear weapons, which require massive silos and detectable radiation, AI is just code and chips. You cannot easily inspect a country to see if they are training a forbidden model. 5) The most powerful AI systems are owned by private companies. These companies have massive lobbying power. If a treaty is too strict, they may move their operations to countries that refuse to sign the treaty to attract high-tech investment. 6) International law is notoriously hard to enforce. If a country violates the treaty, the only real tools are sanctions or public shaming. If the violator is a superpower that controls the supply chain for AI chips or energy, other nations are unlikely to punish them effectively. These are serious challenges. But if we just approach this as another problem and not a potential humanity ending event, nothing will happen. Just like with climate change, agreements will be made that are lax and insufficient. The consequences could be the loss of human autonomy on planet earth to superior intelligence. If there was ever a time humanity needed to work together, it is now.

"To stop them, we need you - donate to the New Israel Fund" The fucking audacity. Liberal Zionists are using Israel's ethnic cleansing of the West Bank as a way to raise more money to normalize Israel. Meanwhile people in Gaza are forced to beg here just to feed their children.

"The moment there's a movement or organization like ours (NIF), that also shows Israelis who oppose the occupation, it breaks down the simplicity of (BDS's) argument and it breaks them down as well" Mickey Gitzin, Acting CEO for the New Israel Fund, comments on BDS's call for boycott against Zionist normalization movement Standing Together. Well, it's time we start talking more about the New Israel Fund, and about Zionist-funded NGOs in general. As you can observe in this short clip, and in many of my past tweets, these NGOs are literally being funded to promote the normalization of Israel and its fully-radicalized genocidal society. It is one of the most dangerous forms of Hasbara, aimed at concealing the disease, by treating, or performatively "treating", only the most visible symptoms. Here's a very partial list of Israeli NGOs receiving funding from NIF: B'Tselem, HaMoked, Gisha, Yesh Din, Breaking the Silence, Standing Together, ACRI, PHRI, Combatants for Peace, Zazim, Rabbis for Human Rights, Ir Amim, Akevot, Machsom Watch, Fake Reporter, The Berl Katznelson Center. This is an excerpt from a podcast by the New Israel Fund, hosted by Michal Zoran and Irmy Shik Blum, released on February 9.

yet another person loudly announcing they’ve blocked me (& that I’ve “lost a customer” because I didn’t spend enough time educating them on how queer people get pregnant.) I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: this is not an airport. there’s no need to announce your departure.

If we can get 20 people to donate $5 we will be 10% to our goal to helping @hdhd12898 Atiya breathe on his own again. This amazing 25 year old man needs a chance at life. Thank you! 🙏

Atiya @hdhd12898 is a 25 year old young man who had his whole life ahead of him. A life that promised a family, career, and everything that would bring him joy. All those dreams were cut short when he was struck during a bomb blast while he was out searching for food with his brother. They were both injured. Atiya was paralyzed. His spinal cord was injured in the 6th vertebrae which results in hemiplegia and difficulty breathing. The doctors installed a port in his throat which goes into his lungs and helps him breathe. The attached video shows the pain that he endures in this state every day. He cannot move so he has to wear diapers.. diapers at age 25. Israel not only stole his livelihood, but also his dignity. Atiya has a chance at healing. They cannot heal his spine in Gaza, he needs go abroad for those surgeries, but there is healing available for his lungs. There is surgery that will repair his lungs so he can have his port removed. This surgery costs $1500. This generous community has come together to help Atiya with pain medication, rent, and food. And I believe in your generosity again. Please help Atiya meet his goal at having full access to his lungs. Please share his campaign here and with your friends and family. Please share with your local religious centers. We can help this young man breathe again physically and metaphorically. Thank you. 🙏 chuffed.org/project/171345…
