A #HealSomersetSpot that never gets old, swallows 🐦 This stunning photo was taken on site by our local ecologist, Alex Sams. If you look closely, you'll see the swallow has caught a horsefly. It's wild to think that these little birds have travelled all the way from Africa.

A few teeny tiny #HealSomersetSpots 🪰 These guys have some cracking names. Picture one is a scorpion fly, picture two is a red-legged robberfly and picture three is a sabre wasp. They were spotted and photographed on site by one of our volunteers, Jen Vickers 📸

Stunning 🤩

Fire making, marshmallow roasting and capture the flag - what an evening @ThePodCharity had on site last week 🌞 The Pod support young people and adults with additional needs, young carers and their families. It was wonderful to welcome their youth club to Heal Somerset.

Auricles, ligules & panicles were just a handful of terms mentioned on site last weekend 🌾 Thanks to Somerset Rare Plants Group who visited our site for a grasses workshop. Some key ID questions we learned are: Is it hairy? What shape are the leaves? Can you see auricles?

When we arrived here, we knew that wild-living beavers were nearby and our biggest hope was that they would turn up here to start their amazing feats of eco-engineering. For now, there appears to be one (or more!) young beavers exploring our site for new territory. 🧵 2/3

We have BEAVERS 🦫 The first signs were willows chewed to stumps and bark stripped from trees. Then, one showed up on our camera traps. Imagine the noises - squeaks and shrieks (not them, us) - as we watched this wonderful species swimming through our tributary. 🧵 1/3
