Since 2023, Tahnoon bin Zayed’s (MBZ’s brother and UAE’s Intel Chief) International Resources Holding (IRH) has led aggressive expansion: •Acquired Zambia’s Mopani copper mine ($1.1B) •Signed iron ore deals in Angola (2024) •Entered advanced talks for nickel mining in Burundi •Through Primera Group, sealed a 25-year, $1.9B deal with DRC for tin, tantalum, tungsten, and cobalt — key for batteries, aviation, and defense industries These ventures are reinforced by UAE-controlled ports such as Maputo, Dakar, Berbera, Bosaso, and Egypt’s Sokhna and Safaga, operated by Dubai Port World and Abu Dhabi Ports Group securing supply lines for mineral exports. Beyond economics, the UAE actively works to topple democratic governments across the MENA region under the pretext of fighting the Muslim Brotherhood from Libya and Somalia to Ethiopia and Egypt. The insecure Sheikhdom knows oil won’t sustain it for long. It is racing to become a regional hub for minerals and data infrastructure. Let’s see how long this overreach takes to provoke rivals like Riyadh and Ankara into action.
