Using Combine (heckj.github.io/swiftui-notes/) is available for free as a labor of love, and could use some help. Please consider supporting it's development with a purchase of the PDF or ePub at gumroad.com/l/usingcombine. Supporting will pay for editing, graphics, & review.

@JoannisOrlandos Working on it, but a fully actor-based setup is on hold until I can get an async context setup from a SwiftUI document-based app structure: FB12243722

Hey everyone! I'm doing some research on how Swift developers adopt async/await (or not). Are you currently implementing it, or have you decided explicitly not to? I'd be happy to have a chat, and hear your experiences.

I wasted a relatively expensive piece of watercolor paper by not understanding how to use it properly. I took a smaller similar piece and tried to do something similar and observed what I did differently. Hopefully I can figure out how to make larger paintings.

@AtarayoSD I’ve been using Blender export to USD to take directly into procreate for painting. Still learning the UV unwrap bits, but so far it’s been fairly successful.

GLTFKit2 now includes native support for visionOS. You can import static glTF assets and display them just like any other RealityKit entity in a RealityView, as shown in the volumetric demo below. github.com/warrenm/GLTFKi…

@mitchellh IMO, some rediscovery and realizing some applications, but in other places there's been meaningful advances in collaborative editing algorithms to make the merging better - while retaining the guarantee of consistency. Also - better compression (serialized anyway)

Been seeing a bunch of CRDT-based tech pop up again the past couple years. I remember CRDTs were HOT ~10-15 years ago. Genuine question: has there been particular advances making this interesting again or is this just a new group of people rediscovering CRDTs? (Not a bad thing)

@kelseyhightower I love the work @kelseyhightower - it's been so useful seeing all the moving parts in one holistic combination. I'm thrilled that you're continuing to update it. Thank you.

2023's @NaNoWriMo is approaching fast! Legends & Lattes was a NaNo '21 book. After years of misses, I finally picked something small & attainable, & let's face it, a little ridiculous, and finished in the month. It's never too late to try again. Small ideas have worth. ❤️

Another great anniversary for Battlestar Galactica as "Exodus - Part two" aired 17 years ago today. Yes, it's the Adama Maneuver time again! Directed by Félix Enríquez Alcalá (Razor, SGU, Breaking Bad) and written by Bradley Thompson & David Weddle (For All Mankind, DS9).

@adamhjk I'm right there with you on the generality behind most of the of the infrastructure open source foundations, but it's worth pointing out that it _can_ be done well: blender.org/about/foundati… holds it out there pretty well.

Look, I don’t love giant industry foundations - I believe they mostly are good at ensuring small companies cannot compete without giving away their product to larger vendors: they’re best at ensuring Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Red Hat can make $$ together as frenemies
Jim Jagielski@jimjag

From thestack.technology/hashicorp-ceo-… "Citing the case of Hadoop, he (CEO Dave McJannet of Hashicorp) said (regarding foundations): “They’re a way for big companies to protect themselves from innovation, by making sure that if Hadoop becomes popular, IBM can take it and sell it for less because they are part of that foundation.”" WTF is he talking about?? To be clear, some #opensource foundations are more concerned about business and corporations than the community or even the project (it's all about the _product_!), but not in this example. If he doesn't grok what #opensource is, how dare he question it and spread this kind of FUD!

@twostraws @mikaela__caron @swiftovercoffee I delight in using Swift, but outside of the Apple ecosystem (so server, typically) I use other languages - python and nodejs. But in any case, learning other languages is a huge win, as it opens you up to learning new ways to think about, and solve problems.

Tomorrow @mikaela__caron and I are recording the next episode of @swiftovercoffee, and we'd love *your* input to our next open ballot: should we be using Swift everywhere, or is it better to learn other languages too? We'll read out as many responses as we can!

@ktosopl hope your talk at Strangeloop went well. I’m sorry I missed it, do you know if they’re likely to be available to the public down the road? (YouTube or the like?)

Dear @Adobe You mentioned your AI images uses the Adobe stock library only and guarantees the artist gets a royalty. Then can you explain why my name is in your library and there are a bunch of AI generated images with my name without my consent or prior knowledge? Please RT

Take that in. Then try wrapping your head around the fact that we’re only seeing the beginning of a destabilising planet, while remembering that GHG emissions are still rising and the companies largely causing this are making record profits. A bit concerning, don’t you think?
Prof. Eliot Jacobson@EliotJacobson

Our favorite planet has now seen 20 days in a row breaking the modern-day record high-temperature of 16.924°C (62.46°F) set on July 24, 2022. This global heatwave is likely the hottest 20-day stretch in the last 100,000+ years.

How did this sort of thing (from the original Traveller RPG books) not scare the willies out of wide-eyed adventurous teens wanting to get into space RPGs!?
