Don't repaint the penguin; change the iceberg. Becoming a penguin with a six-pack on the same iceberg is your mortal enemy.

Burn your current life to the ground. Blindfold yourself. Stick a pin in a map. Get on a plane to wherever you stuck the pin. Propose daily to anyone whose name begins with a 'J'. Buy a pot-bellied pig. Your life will now be a lot less random than the life you were born into.

Black sheep are always throwbacks. Look into your family tree. There will be one person in your ancestry who was uncannily like you. Your family will have hidden them or hushed them up.

It's vanishingly unlikely that your birth-life is a good fit for you. It's more probable that you could toss a bag of flour into the air and have it fall to the ground in a perfect replica of the Taj Mahal.

@designsbycarlos Yes! The ripple effect certainly continues. I like to think she's up there playing with those kittens looking down on all the lives she transformed.

@hedwak "Rebecca" didn't manage to save those 8 kittens but she saved a lot more than 8 of us. This brought back memories.

8 Dead Kittens In The Freezer. 'I don't know what to do,' Rebecca said. She was in floods of tears on the other end of the line. That same phone used to call me every 30 minutes on a good day. I used to ignore every other call. I'd asked her to call less. I even tried to call her more. To see if she'd feel less insecure. It didn't work. Rebecca was incapable of moderating anything. When the calls started coming every minute, I eventually picked up. *** Rebecca was the real-life cat lady. She could not bear suffering in any living soul. She picked up any stray animal that passed her way. In that corner of rural Spain, she had an almost constant supply. Eventually, I was one of those strays she took in. She saved my life. For sure. The locals thought she was an animal sanctuary. Her large house was filled to capacity by the time I met her. *** Rebecca was an alcoholic. She got sober. But she was dumpster-diving to find food to survive. She regularly thought about ending it all. All her friends in recovery told her: 'If you just keep doing the next right thing, the next right thing will happen.' Through her online meetings, she heard about Print-on-demand. She decided to do it. Not try it. Rebecca was nocturnal because of it. She stayed awake when America was online. And slept all through the fierce Spanish sunshine. *** When Rebecca offered to teach me Print-on-demand, I gulped. "I can't draw a stick-figure," I told her. And she replied, in classic Rebecca-style: "Erm..sorry..what are all those other offers you're considering?" *** 'What on earth is the matter?' I asked when I finally picked up. A stray cat she had taken in had given birth and then departed for kitty heaven. Rebecca spent three days and nights trying to hand feed 8 newly-born kittens. But the mother was obviously sick and so were her babies. Rebecca didn't trust doctors or vets. Each time one died, she carefully wrapped it up and put it in the deep freeze. So she could continue trying to save the others. When the 4th sleepless day dawned and the 8th kitten died, she was heartbroken and exhausted. She went to bed and slept for 36 hours ...despite her insomnia. *** I saw Rebecca the following week. I asked her how the burial had gone. She looked sheepish. "I can't face letting them go just yet" *** Rebecca sold MILLIONS in Print-on-demand. She plowed all her money into buying another house with land. Which she filled with more strays. I don't think she ever managed to bury those kittens. *** Everything I know about making money online, I learned first from Rebecca. If I hadn't met her, I'd have none of the things that make my life SO beautiful today. When I was a single dad to two young children and a labradoodle.. When my roof caved in, it rained inside more than outside.. When I lost my job.. Rebecca gave me 100 euros a week so I could feed the kids. And taught me how to replicate her business. "Pass it on," she told me. And, to my surprise, I have been able to. I will never forget her. Whenever I think of her, I always whisper: 'thank you.' *** One of the last things Rebecca ever said to me was this: "Just for God's sake, don't EVER become a writer!" "Why?" I asked her, feeling a bit confused about what she was driving at. "Because you'll feel you have to write about that mad cat-lady who had 8 dead kittens in her freezer." We both laughed until we had tears rolling down our cheeks. As if...

@callmeeugenius How very generous of you! I'm an old-school, well, ok, just old, programmer who studied AI at Uni along with Welsh. I help introverted, highly sensitive types burn their old life to the ground and emerge phoenix-like from the ashes.

HAL is listed as the 13th-greatest film villain of all time. But in 3001, we find out HAL was sending Frank into the future (via cryogenic suspension) where Dave would be merged with HAL. He gave them both immortality. Even in response to fiction, we are ambivalent about AI.

Introverts will be most affected by AI. Book summaries and transcription can already be done better by AI than human introverts. But luckily.. Creating, training and leveraging AI systems is also a field where introverts excel. Introverts take heed!

AI does some great stuff. But it doesn't write well. You can start reading a web-page, an e-book or a post and immediately think "Oh no, more chatgpt stuff!" Just as easily as you can instantly recognize the ramblings of an annoying friend. This should tell us how to use it.
